Harry Groener commented in a recent Broadway.com interview that he is not a trained singer, which made doing SITPWG hard for him.

Just to clarify: My comment was based on something Hugh said in an interview he did, I think it was on The View, during BFO. I had just seen the interveiw via Youtube, so it was fresh in my mind.

As for Michael Ball, he did take some lessons in the last couple of years, especially prior to his one-off performance as Valjean for the Queen and the French President at Windsor two years ago. Prior to that time, I don't believe he had any formal training.
