It's not a very good play. It's a very surface-level exploration of drag, refracted through the experience of a straight white guy who does it out of necessity. There are moments that are affecting -- like Rexy's monologue -- but mostly it just feels like an excuse for audiences to whoop and cheer at men in dresses. It can be entertaining in performance (I've seen the original production and a regional production), but it lacks substance or much of an understanding of its subject.

Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore.
