I just noticed this buried on the Telecharge page for Eclipsed:
*Please be advised that the role of 'The Girl' normally played by Lupita Nyong'o will be played by Ayesha Jordan on Wednesday evenings beginning March 9.
She's not on the cast page on the website. Did they announce this or were they hoping nobody would find out in advance?

she's listed on playbillvault.com as the standby for "The Girl". but nothing's mentioned in any press releases or on the show's website.

That's a little odd that they haven't announced it, but as long as they're telling ticket-buyers I suppose there's no harm done.

Is it that demanding of a role? From what I've understood it's really an ensemble piece?

My point was that the way it's buried on the website, and the fact that they have not announced it via press release, means that people will definitely show up and not have been notified in advance that Lupita is not doing the role 8x a week and will be disappointed,

How cool would it be if Dana Gurira filled in for a performance?
I would try and get her to sign my machete at the stage door.
And then I would probably sleep with it.

Broadway.com says the alternate starts formally going on Wednesday evenings on 3/9, which is after opening. So I guess Lupita will be on eight times a week during previews.
But seriously, this is a pretty limited run. Girlfriend can't handle eight shows a week when she's THE headliner?

Not so much a question of what she can handle as what he agent can negotiate. She didn't seem to have any trouble doing eight shows a week at The Public. Maybe she just doesn't want to.
