Yes, it's supposed to be the greatest thrill for a vocalist to sing with an entire symphony orchestra behind her, but in a few cases orchestra and singer were competing with each other to be heard over the other. I believe she only sang one number with her jazz quartet, but in that number her voice appeared to be, well, maybe a little more relaxed.
Most of the songs with the full orchestra came off fine and the sound on all the recordings is pretty flawless.
I spent this evening with Audra and the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. Superlatives fail me at this late hour, so "phenomenal" will have to suffice. The one song that truly made the concert memorable for me: "Make Someone Happy". And Audra did; she made this guy very happy.
