Has anybody here seen the film? What did you think? To be honest, I find the Off-Broadway cast recording to be pretty mediocre, but it's still interesting to see a different take on this. (Are there many other cross-cultural film adaptations of Western musicals out there? It hasn't really been on my radar as a thing.)
I was excited about this when the news came out. I think it might be the first non-English film adaptation of mainstream western musicals. Some friends reminded me of the Korean Story of My Life, but that's not a film adaptation of the show, it's a film about a fictional production of the musical.
Anyhow, I haven't seen it yet. They only showed it in a few cities in south east Asia. I've been waiting for an online or DVD release. That said, the online reaction is really bad. Like really, really bad. Tons of 1 star reviews on douban: https://movie.douban.com/subject/30331429/ Everybody's trash talking about it in this 7-page discussion: https://www.discuss.com.hk/viewthread.php?tid=28002929&extra=&page=1 I wouldn't get my hopes up, but I'd still like to see it for myself.
For anyone interested, there is now a blu ray and DVD (Region 3) release for this film, apparently including English subtitles. This won't be going to the top of my wishlist, especially after lachri5's intel; but for those interested enough, the option is now there. Below is the Amazon link, although there are probably cheaper options around.
