POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

If you liked Disney's previous television musicals, you'll love what they did for ONCE UPON A MATTRESS.

I was surprised I didn't like Burnett as much as I thought I would like her. Didn't live up to the hype. But was still a goddess and very enjoyable.

Tracey Ullman really stole it. Lover her in this. She made some cheesy moments uncheesy.

All in all a fun film. Altogether cheesy, but made to be a musical family flick. Very nice. Big step up from the dreadful Music Man. Broderick as Harold Hill? C'MON! Out of the dozens of potentials to follow the great Robert Preston, they choose someone I would never consider to attempt this feat. Shameful.

Back to Mattress - this was my first time seeing the show, though I have heard most of its music. I believe they cut soem songs, if I am not mistaken.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

It already came out? I thought it was airing for the first time this Sunday.

"`I grow old... I grow old... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.` What does that mean, Mr. Marlowe?" "Not a bloody thing. It just sounds good." He smiled. "That is from the `Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.` Here's another one. `In the room women come and go/Talking of Michael Angelo.' Does that suggest anything to you, sir?" "Yeah -- it suggests to me that the guy didn't know very much about women." "My sentiments exactly, sir. Nonetheless I admire T. S. Eliot very much." "Did you say, 'nonetheless'?" - The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler

Honestly, Matthew didn't impress me. I don't think it was him - it was the role and the way it was directed. Typical cheesy Disney fluff. But even I was watching and thought "Damn - he's kinda attractive...for a guy."

Marquise, it is delightfully cheesy. re: 'Once Upon A Mattress' Another Addition to Disney's Delightful Television Musicals

Just like Disney's previous television musicals. Especially similar to CINDERELLA.

I'm really excited now. I LOVED Cinderella - I'll always have a soft spot for it. It was my first introduction to any sort of musical and I remember singing 'Impossible' in the shower when I was 8. Good times, good times.

There are copies of the 1972 version floating around on eBay, but AFAIK neither it nor the 1964 version have been officially released.

As far as Matt (Sir Harry) being a "cheesy" party or the result of "cheesy" direction "typical" of Disney, I performed OUAM, and it's a cheesy show. The jokes are corny, the characters are big and "out there", and loveable no matter how evil they attempt to be. It's an over-the-top fantasy. Sir Harry, especially, is written as pompous, very conceited, and very determined to achieve status in the kingdom--he also happens to love Lady Larken, and although the two have a fight and pretend to hate one another, it's all done with a facetious touch and with the intent of appearing too saccharine to be reality. This isn't the "Disney" effect, it's the show itself. If anything, Disney did it right.

"It's not for sissies, contrary to popular belief." - Tommy Tune, on musical theatre.

I have seen the 1972 TV movie and, in all honesty, its not that great of an adaptation. The Minstrel character was cut completely and the charm of the show was completely lost. I really like this show and I hope that this new adaptation is much better than the other TV adaptations.

I saw their rendition of Annie, not my favorite. Annie was my first musical love, so I may be a little nitpicky on it. However, have heard of, but never seen Once Upon a Mattress, so I might watch it. I also have two young siblings who may llike it.

Sir Harry and Lady Larkin are supposed to pretend to hate each other? Didn't get that. They hid their love - nothing more.

I believe a lot was cut from this new adaptation. Please someone do let me know what has been removed.

OUAM is supposed to be cheesy? That's fine. But it's the same style of cheesiness as Annie, Music Man, and Cinderella. Merely fun and tolerable to my taste. Still, it was an enjoyable program.

Loved their version of Annie mainly due to Audra McDonald. Her reprise still gives me goosebumps.

They don't pretend to hate each other... they get in a fight...
I was Winnifred in this last year... I'm excited to see it... when I wasn't on stage, I honestly didn't watch the show, so it will be nice to know what else goes on in it other than the obvious stuff.

Glad Disney is airing it. I was afraid it was going to be shelved forever.
