they should have named this version Once Upon a Craptress.
its so sad middle america watches these films and thinks this is what musical theatre is all about.

Posted: 12/18/05 at 9:10pmOh, put a sock in it. I've never been a great fan of the show, but this was a perfectly good production. They got rid of the stupid unfunny slapstick and the extraneous songs. Tracey was fine (although I thought Denis O'Hare was much more charming), Carol a delight, and Zooey and Matthew a sweetly dopey pair of lovers.

Posted: 12/18/05 at 9:17pmActually, I liked it. Not a conventional "ingenue" voice, certainly, but on pitch and perfectly pleasant. And I'm sorry, but she and Matthew are definitely charmers. (I'm also sorry to keep using the same adjective over and over.)

Posted: 12/18/05 at 10:56pmWhen I said Lady Larken and Sir Harry pretend to hate one another, I didn't mean they pretend for the sake of others, I meant that each convinces himself (herself) that he (she) hates the other. Lady Larken never "hates" Harry and Harry never "hates" Larken, but after their fight, they overreact and try to convince themselves that they are no longer in love.

Posted: 12/21/05 at 5:39pmI think a lot of people were just in a bad mood Sunday night. I think this was a perfectly delightful and quite faithful version of the show. If you don't like the show, fine, but let's get real--it doesn't deserve the invective some have heaped upon it. It's always been a modest and silly little musical with a fun score and a great leading lady part. It's never been anything more. I think a lot of people need to develop a sense of humor.

"The show didn't seem as fun to me as it did when I was in it."
Well, how much fun did the audience have? Before you answer--you should realize that you don't really know. I've been in enough shows to know that how much fun you have while you're in it has nothing to do with the quality of the production.
