I wonder who will be lucky enough to play Patrick Dennis if it comes to Broadway.
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher
Although I love Jerry Herman musicals and wish this production of MAME well, I have to join others who feel Baranski is ideal of the role. People forget that Mame Dennis is an elegant lady and the more elegant she is, the funnier the character becomes. Lansbury was sensational because of this.
I'd love to see Joan Collins or Diana Rigg play Mame. Maybe even Juliet Mills.
I know it's the topic of this thread, but I'd be surprised if Mame made it in. It wasn't an ideal production at Paper Mill a few years ago, but even Christine Ebersole couldn't make it work (and something about her still seems better suited to the role than Christine Baranski).
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.
