I'd say White has the upper hand over Best, seeing that she:

1) Created a role from scratch.
2) Is an American actress who has been doing Off-Broadway and regional work for years, and Best is only making her Broadway debut.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Very true Wanna. But on the other hand (playing devil's advocate), Best gave an amazing performance in an O'Neill pla which not everyone can pull off. She not only pulled it off but managed to make the character relatable to everyone in the audience. She did that for me at least. At one point during that loooong show, I remember tearing up over a line and thinking "this woman is incredible. period".

By the way, I would love to see White take it.

While those are certainly plusses for White, there is one, huge negative that cancels out the positives:

Her show closed a long time ago.

Voters who only make it to NY in the spring to see the nominated show will not be able to see White, but they will see Best.

Has our girl got a chance?

Can a satiric performance wrest the Tony?

She should really do the whole setting up a booth, baking muffins, "it's alright vote for White" schtick, if only for how amusing it would be.
White is a brilliant actress, I have not seen Best but I must say I hope White takes the award home.

I really hope that the voters have seen her performance. I'm worried that the vote will go to Lansbury, simply for the name factor.

You did too good a job at guessing the Drama Desks.

It's quite exhilarating to see Brantley's prediction in the "Critics' Picks" in The New York Times-

Best Actress in a Play
Will win: Eve Best
Should win: Julie White
Should have been nominated: Alison Pill

*They were allowed to nominate Off Broadway shows and people.

How about Bellafante's prediction that Julie White will win.

All those critics have the contest as between Julie and Eve.

I'm pushing for Ms.White but I think Eve Best will end up winning. How can you not fall in love with White though?

I wish I'd heard her speech that everyone says was so good.

What did she say?
