OK, my husband and I are watching The Associate on cable and playing "insert song here".
"Insert song here" is what we do in a movie when it feels like there needs to be a song.
SHUTTUP! Stop looking at me like that!
So, anyway, what random movie do you think should be produced as the next big Broadway musical?
Bullets Over Broadway. One of my favorites. I just watched it again last night and couldn't help but imagine a musical version in my head.

I have many suggestions, but I could really shoot the stars for NEWSIES to be musicalized. It has that kind of zazz you want in a musical. You know zazz, like zing, zork, kapowza. Call it what you want, in any language it spells mazuma in the bank! They'd make a whole lot of mazuma with all those newsboys singing and dancing. I already have the perfect production in my head. I'll mention it in a future thread.
I am not a big fan of rehashing movies or TV shows and putting them on stage, that be said: "Little Miss Sunshine" in the right hands could be great.
The Graduate with Christine Ebersole and Matt Cavenaugh, AKA Jerry DOES want sex with you...
Bullets Over Broadway is a perfect movie musical idea.
(I heard Hamlisch had the rights and was trying to write it. C'mon, Marvin! Finish it!)

The play "The Miss Firecracker Contest" which became the film "Miss Firecracker".
"My Brilliant Career" from the same-titled novel.
"The Graduate with Christine Ebersole and Matt Cavenaugh, AKA Jerry DOES want sex with you... "
Clara's Pony.... that is amazing. I laughed so hard.
I am a huge fan of the movie Arthur, and I think it would be a great musical. There are plenty of moments that would lend themselves to musical numbers.
If I remember correctly, Arthur was already attempted at Papermill. I think the Unsung Musicals cds has a number from it recorded.
Anyone ever see the Simpsons episode where they do "Planet of the Apes--the musical"?

Funny that you mention "The Graduate." MGM On Stage includes two Dustin Hoffman film gems on its list of upcoming projects:
1) Midnight Cowboy
2) Rain Man
I kid you not...

How about Crash? No, not the one that won the Academy Award, the Ballard/Croenenberg film.
Buy hey, why stop with the movies? How about "Malcolm in the Middle" or "Suddenly Susan" (Kathy Griffin's obviously looking for a gig), or "Seinfeld" (nah, there are too many musicals about nothing already on the boards... ).
huh... that's funny... i typed, 'buy' instead of 'but.' think that means anything in freudian terms?

I think THAT THING YOU DO! (the Tom Hanks movie) would make a great musical. Of course, it would pose a challenge: not having the characters perform the same song 10 times. If the writers could work around this, use some of the clever retro sounding songs from the movie (as well as maybe some new ones), I think it would make a great musical.

Yeah, I saw Arthur the Musical at the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre in Chicago way back when (late 80s?). It had some cute elements, but it was pretty fluffy and lacked consistency in its tone. I'm not surprised it didn't go far.

or how about "In Cold Blood" with a tapdancing finale called, 'the hangman's dance.'
