HAMILTON 4K and Blu-ray Jun 6 2026, 09:15:10 PM
MysteriousLady said: "This will be one of the rare times I disagree with you. Modern DVDs look remarkable and with all the compression that goes on with streaming they can even be better than streaming in 4k (which isn't actually 4k by the time they compress it to hell)."
This is assuming they were ever really 4k to begin with. Some 4k blu-rays are just upscales of 2k masters.

Les Miserables 40th Anniversary Cast Recording May 29 2026, 04:13:16 PM

I mean I know subtlety isn't the order of the day with "Les Miz" but my goodness I want to tell everyone to dial it down a notch. Plus the orchestrations sound so thin. Don't think this would ever replace any of my go-to recordings."
I think the emoting is part of "maintaining the excitement and emotion of bei

Les Miserables 40th Anniversary Cast Recording May 28 2026, 05:07:41 PM
This album and the current production is about 20 minutes shorter than the complete symphonic recording, reflecting the various cuts made over the years. It will also have the newer orchestrations. This production was recorded for the 25th anniversary 2010 cast album, but even though it was recorded live they did not release the complete score. It was recorded again in 2020 but that concert production was also not the complete score, so this new album will technically

Les Miserables 40th Anniversary Cast Recording May 28 2026, 12:22:21 PM

The new 40th anniversary cast recording of Les Misérables releases digitally tonight at midnight EST 5/29. Pre-save or pre-order the album here.
Producer Cameron Mackintosh said in a statement “As Les Miz approached its 40th record-breaking year in London last October, I felt it was the perfect time to record the first complete album of the contemporary production of this great musical as it is now staged all over the world. We wanted it to have the quality of a studio recording while maintaining the excitement and emotion of being on stage with the actors, right in the midst of the action. ... Hopefully audiences will enjoy Hearing The People Sing on this new cast album as much as we enjoyed making it.”

So the full London album won’t be out in 2026 like previously teased?

Ben Platt & Rachel Zegler - THE LAST FIVE YEARS (NYC/LA) Apr 20 2026, 04:43:47 PM
Anyone listen to the album? Rachel sounds great. Anyone who knows better than me know if these are the original orchestrations or expanded? I can’t tell.

CHESS 2025 Broadway Cast Recording Thread Apr 10 2026, 01:54:26 PM
This will probably get the most plays from me of any new album this season, and I can confidently say that having not even seen or heard the new musicals this season that haven’t dropped albums yet. The only minor quibble from me is that I would have liked some dialogue in the beginning to help set the scene, and some dialogue at the end to tie things up, but it seems there was a conscious choice to record very little of the new book and just let the score shine and I can’t r

Am I nuts for thinking the tempo was faster in the theatre? This version sounds a bit more sluggish as opposed to its usual punchiness. I compared it to my audio slime and I definitely perceive a difference"
The length of the song, studio vs live, is practically identical on my end. I don't think it's slower.

I’m so glad they did this right and gave us a complete recording of the score as presented in this production instead of highlights to fit on one CD.

TWO STRANGERS (CARRY A CAKE ACROSS NEW YORK) Original Broadway Cast Recording Thread Mar 19 2026, 04:40:45 PM
Is the album art really just going to be the production photo they’re using for the pre-save?

Show Boat Centennial Mar 14 2026, 04:39:36 PM
It would be interesting to see what Sher and LCT would do with the piece since every single production seems to be different. I’ve never seen two Show Boats use the same song stack. There’s always songs getting added, cut and shuffled around.

The Rocky Horror Show Playbill Design Feb 28 2026, 01:21:18 PM
I don’t mind them using a different font than the more traditional Rocky Horror look, it’s just the warping that makes it look like 80s Microsoft Word. Maybe that’s what they were going for.

HOW TO DANCE IN OHIO to close on February 11 Feb 21 2026, 12:48:40 PM
Maybe they’re just trying to keep all their bases covered with this title? Didn’t MTI have to change the contract a while back to specify which characters are black because a theatre performed Hairspray in blackface?

I’m actually surprised this hasn’t happened yet.

Upcoming Japanese production of GYPSY renamed as ROSE due to sensitivity regarding the original title Jan 27 2026, 11:56:28 AM
To me it’s about intent. The show is called Gypsy because her name was Gypsy Rose Lee, not because anyone is intentionally trying to offend the Roma and Sinti people. It’s a period piece and at this time in history it was culturally acceptable to use that word. Changing it censors history. Absolutely include a note in the program about the usage of the word as they have done on their website, but I see no reason to change the title.

Mary_Poppins said: "I’ll guess that was a joke."
I wasn’t joking necessarily. Sometimes albums are recorded and released in 4 to 6 weeks and other times it does seem like producers will hold back a release a few weeks or months for some sort of strategic reason even though we all know it’s not really taking that long to finish it.
