Introduction : This will focus primarily on plays & musicals that's currently playing in Provincetown, MA. this Summer. Hopefully I'll get a chance to see the two plays that I am really anticipating to see ( Shakespeare on the Cape's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING & Ryan Landry's THE MILKMAN ALWAYS COMES TWICE ) which only play on Tuesday nights (unfortunately) Parts 2-4 will be later added to this thread later this summer ... PART ONE : "FOREVER PLAID "
at the Provincetown Theater at 238 Bradford Street (East Side of Town)
playing till August 5, 2007
tix price ( I paid )-$29.00
1 hour & 50 minutes with 1 intermisison
July 21 (Saturday matinee 5 pm )

Things I Like & Things I Don't Like :

Basically, I like the show.. I was expecting that I would not like it. I was suprised that it has a book or a story...Its a story of quartet group who died prematurely in 1950's and mysteriously came back to do "one more show". They sang songs from that era and earlier, nothing really original about the musical ...but the thing that I was really impressed is the cast. They were really good and very professional. I watched the Saturday 5 pm matinee ( there's another one at 8 pm ) and there were 17 audience in a 137 seater theater. Once they got onstage.. they were very confident and they just do their thing. They worked the audience very well. There were 4 ladies sitting at the front and basically they were having the time of their life thru the entire show. One of the cast that really stands out was Matt LaFontaigne (the guy wearing a green t-shirt) he is very talented , he could really sing his heart out and he harmonized very well with the other three perfectly without outdoing them. I spoke to him after the show and I found out that he is from NYC . I am sure we will hear from him soon after he gets his union card ...The only thing I really did not like is I wish they could have cut it down to like 90 minutes. The musical is too long. I the PERFIDIA song.. The Lady of Spain is soo over the top...I recommend this show if your in Provincetown for one week and really... your like 300 miles away from the nearest Off- Broadway Show, what else to do ? and your craving for a show .. I mean a musical.. this show is a good one in my LIST bec. of Matt Lafontaigne and Alan Gillespie. I dont know if I seen this show with a different cast ..it might be a different experience for me

I was just there this weekend and saw Pam Ann (AMAZING! She is hysterical) and Varla Jean Merman who is awesome but the venue is the WORST I have ever been in. You couldn't see sh*t....

I was there last month and saw Dina Martina (probably the funniest show i have ever seen!)

Hi All-

On a serious note .."WOW" I did not realize that there were people from the other side of the country, that's reading our posting (but not posting) who's a bit shy and afraid to post... I guess.. I got an a suprise e-mail from Kevin (19 yr old gay guy from Arknasas ) who somehow manage to get my e-mial thru the Xanadu website (fANADU page- bec. were supposed to post our e-mail) He wanted to know if Provincetown is a nice place to go for gay people and be themselves? He is never been anywhere aside from his homestate-- Arkansas and read articles about
P-town in newspaper and the web...and would like to visit it someday..

Well Kevin..my original draft for the Introduction part was...My Thoughts on Provincetown : Changes after 2004 , but I changed it.. I told myself that I dont want to stir the pot or do some sort of "socio-political" discussion and just focus on the shows that I have seen and will see... I just wanted to avoid any negativity.

I was about to hit reply on my yahoo account to your e-mail, but I just realized that if there's another person like you out there that would read my posting , be happy and have a hope for whatever their situation is.. then I posted something good
(maybe off-topic.. but a good one to ponder )

My answer is YES.. It's a place for gay people...100% gay? NO ..not anymore..
Last week is about 50% straight and 50% gay--which I think is a good indication !!

Hold on- before it shatters all your dream ! I heard stories from my friends who live in P-Town (who were older than me) that during the 80's and even to 1996, that there was a town story that goes like this ... Once in while ... a person will wonder thru Commercial Street saying out loud to his/her spouse or a friend..."Hey .. you know that guy is gay...the owner of the store is gay too ... and that woman on the street is really a guy ! " The locals love to hear this story over and over , every summer... to newly tourist that drove a bit farther than Hyannis or Wellfleet ...

Last year.. there was another story ( I don't know how true is this ? but I think I heard it too while walking on Commercial Street ) that local gay men (I mean to say
people who live year round & people from Boston that have a Summer place there) made some comments while walking on Commercial St.... Why are there soo many straight people here ??? ( I think there was an article about that in the newspaper - I will find it ) But my point is.. Times have changed... the gay places
we used to have and cherished as our "own" is fading out. You may not understand this but in Boston - we have a gay neighborhood called " SouthEnd" (in NYC- its Chelsea) Southend is not really gay anymore neither bec. the house prices went up so high, that most gay people cannot afford it anymore and they start moving to the suburbs.. I think the reason why were losing this places is bec..(it may be related to your situation too) Gay Culture here in Boston is being absorbed into the mainstream.. After 2004- (the year Gay marriage was legalized in Boston) we dont have to live in our "gay neighborhood" anymore to feel safe. The more we become accepted in the society -- the more we become homogenize to the rest of the people here.... It's like Chris & I can just move to Quincy (suburb) and we don't have to explain our arrangement to our neighbors... Are we losing our IDENTITY as gay people ? I dont think so... I think we are becoming a visible part of our community here. I do have some friends that does not like this idea.. One friend of mine.. told me.. that we are not special anymore... but I told him.. WE CANNOT EVERYTHING !
you gain some.. you loose some...

and I think that this type of changes is POSITIVE- Don't worry - It will come to your hometown SOON-- like you said - you love the movie HAIRSPAY- its like movie
....You Can't Stop the Beat ...... !!!! Change will happen.. It may start here in the Northeast and California ...but it will come to your town too...

and unfortunately... we might start losing special places like Provincetown... but
in return we will be a citizens of this country !!

NO- actually , in all honesty - I do not go there....First I am married and secondly
Boston is a small place and people talk here a lot....if you know what I mean...

I know someone.. you guys probably know him.. He is quite famous and "notorious" now..His name is DAWSON ...( I am not going to mention his real name ) He is the sweetest guy from Maine...he actually did some p*rn* movies ( I am sure baddppa would love to hear this ) and when word came around here in the SOUTHEND. He was literally "blacklisted". No one wants be around him... People talked behind his back even if he is within ear-shot range at the gym (MIke's Gym in SouthEnd)

I love gaymen here in the SouthEnd. Almost all of them were my friends.. but
also they are very "clicky" and can be very VICIOUS if they hear some shannanigans about you..... Another thing.. if you post your picture at bigmuscle.com .. Forget it.. your gay career is OVER here.... No one will go out on a date with you. That actually happened to some of my friends who posted their pics on that website...People here talk and gossip at the gym and around SouthEnd ... OKAY - Not all Gay Man from Boston are like that.. I just wanted to point that out...

LOL! Yes, Dick Dock is still there under the Boat Slip. It was really hoppin' over the weekend! I had gone with a couple of cute friends from Boston who had never been- Uh, oh... I wonder if anyone found them out? They were good boys though!!! I can vouch for that.

"Naked Boys Singing" does not even have their names on the post card that they were giving away in Commercial Street while wearing that white towel in the picture

Most of the shows in P-Town have the names of the cast members. I am checking it now (the post card ) that I got from last weekend.. It does not say anything, mostly pics from the NYC cast.... I wonder why ?

BTW- There were two more guys in the cast (not in the pic though ) that were just gorgeous ! I promised I'll take their pics next time I go back to P-Town .. and I think that they were the MOST good looking of the bunch...

Update on NAKED BOYS SINGING...

Actually I know the Producer of the show- Tom Dangora (he used to be in Naked Boys Singing in 2001 -- he dated a friend of mine that summer) I saw him last Saturday and he told me he is producing the show now ( he is not one of the NBS now ) I just called my friend & left a message to give me Tom's number.... I will try to get the names of the cast members...

I dont even think they have any cast picture at all- I think that picture I posted might be the only picture in the web of Naked Boys Singing 2007 P-Town (of course not including myself- I'm too "old" for the role - I think they are all in their early 20's )

I just spoke to Tom Dangora, the Producer of Naked Boys Singing (2007 P-Town )
and according to him- Bruce Vilanch and Rue Maclanan have seen the show and was very pleased with it.

If you watch his play ...I think at the end he goes outside and sign autographs (or whatever memorabilia you want to bring ) and you can take pics with him...of course, with clothes on , okay...
so there's no confusion

that theatre SUCKS. I saw Varla Jean Merman there and it is long and narrow. The stage is 6 inches off the floor so if you are more tahn 4 rows back, you can't see sh*t... I would be pissed if i paid to see Jeff Stryker and couldn't see his di*k...

Like I said, the the stage is 6 inches iff the floor and with Jeff being 5'6" at the MOST you can't see di*k. Just rent his DVD's!!!!

BTW- I am soo curious if HE CAN ACT ?? I might see it this weekend...but I guess youre right for $43.00 dollars...Is it worth it ...hmmm. let me think and WHY DO THEY HAVE THESE THINGS ON P-TOWN ? ....and Bruce Vilanch wrote it ? oh my !! I am soo confused !!!
