Starting today, Turner Classic Movies is starting their "31 Days of Oscar" season.
They are showing 360 Oscar nominated films between now and March 3.

One of the fun things is they are doing "360 Degrees of Separation".
From their website:
The trick is connecting each film during the 31 days through a common performer, be they superstar or supporting player.
For example, in programming on the first day of the festival, February 1, we move through this sequence: Ava Gardner, who starred in Mogambo (1953), also appeared in Show Boat (1951) with Kathryn Grayson, who appeared in Thousands Cheer (1943) with Donna Reed, who acted in Babes on Braodway (1941), which also featured Anne Rooney. And so it goes through March 3, which winds up connecting superstar Kirk Douglas to supporting actor Eric Pohlmann through their mutual appearance in Lust for Life. (1956).
The links between actors encompass eight decade of movies, ranging from Sunrise (1927, Best Artistic Quality of Production) to the TCM premiere of The Birdcage (1996, Best Art Direction/Set Decoration)

I am looking forward to catching several of these films starting with Babes on Broadway a little later this morning.

I miss TCM so much when I'm at school.
Yeah, I find myself watching some portion of a movie on TCM just about every day.
Same here Patronus--I was pissed I came in too late on Born Yesterday last night--I missed my fave scene--the gin game! Perfection.
I'm excited about Dodsworth and Sunrise! Though alot of the ones I want to see come on too late--why am I too po for Tivo?
Does your cable company provide a DVR service?
Please, I don't even have cable! I watch at my bf's...
Ah, gotcha.
I have the exact opposite issue from the movies coming on too late for you. They come on too early for me living on the West Coast.
The "big" primetime blockbusters like Casablanca, Bridge on the River Kwai, Sands of Iwo Jima etc come on at 8:00 eastern, when I am still at work.
I've seen most of the biggies...but like Mannequin is on at 4am or something crazy like that.
Yeah, I'll probably Tivo that one.
We just went full circle.
I am actually looking forward to seeing Operation Petticoat tomorrow night. I've never seen it.

Watching "Babes on Broadway" right now. I've always loved these movies. I've never seen this one and it's very enjoyable.

I've got that on as well, just as background while I try to work on Greek though.
I tried it as background filler...but Judy is so great that I have to pause it everytime I go out of the room so I am about an hour behind the broadcast feed.

Lildogs, Born Yesterday will be replayed on the 15th.
Well when Judy comes on (like right now) that is the "horse of a different color, we have heard so much about."
I love the scene where the little girl is basically wearing the Dorothy costume from The Wizard of Oz.
Nice little homage.
"Operation Petticoat" is ALOT of fun--plus I love seeing all those girls in their bullet bras.
Thanks Kringas..."Play yer cards!"

My DVR is going to be on overdrive this month. I've already set it to record like twenty of these movies.
Stupid me, stuck with my old school VCR.
So have I. I just went through the guide to decide what to record.
Then I'll have to transfer them all onto tape to keep them forever.

Aw, sorry to hear that OutdatedTechnologyPenguin78.
I jest, but the dvr has really changed my life.
Oh yeah, I can't imagine life without my Tivos.
I almost never watch anything live.
Hell, that 12 minute buffer from commercials saves so much time.
I hate comercials.
OTPenguin78 is about right, and pretty outdated FOR '78 at that.
They are ALL in "black face," oh my goodness.
I just caught up to the black face part.
Wow, that's just...
Wow.
