A 19 year old gay man was murdered, decapitated, and burned in Puerto Rico for being gay. One of the investigators of this case said he deserved it because of his lifestyle. A vigil will be held on christopher and west side highway in NYC on november 22nd for him

When the police says stuff like that I have to ask, then why are you even investigating the crime. You are suppose to uphold the law and then say he got what he deserved. Its like why do you care? Do you feel the people have faith you will actually try and find the killer? The Cop should be terminated and never be allowed in law enforcement again.Sh*t like this really makes me crazy.
They caught the killer, he used gay panic as his defense

Did they find a box of Twinkies on him? Self defense? Really? I mean, self defense is one thing. This guy cut off his head and burned him,all in self defense? I hope the law does not reflect the officers attitude and this guy somehow gets away with what he did. This guy needs to rot in jail for the rest of his life!
Well, he should be told society has "Murderer Panic" as he is put to death by lethal injection.

"What the **** is wrong with people?"
Fear.
>Fear.
Practically a commodity these days. The perpetrator deserves to spend his life in jail.
"What the **** is wrong with people?"
It's just plain stupidity. The world is rampant with it.
This is just sad.
Lets see if the mainstream media even covers this story. If the exact same thing happened to a young white girl or a white man it would be on all the cable news for weeks.I could be wrong, but wasn't Matthew Sheppard the last murdered gay man to really make the news? Of course, if this crime has happened in the USA Fred Phelps and his family would be raising money for the murderer's trial and declare him a hero.
The perpetrator deserves to spend his life in jail.
I disagree. I believe the perpetrator deserves to be murdered, decapitated and burned.
I am wondering, the article says the victim offered him anal sex. Did the murderer kill him because of the simple offer or after indulging?
I am trying to understand why someone would do something like this when simply a "No thanks, I am not into that." would have sufficed.
I wholeheartedly agree Mr Matt!

The investigating police officer said that "people who lead this type of lifestyle need to be aware that this will happen"? So everyday I walk out of my house I have to know that someone will ultimately KILL me for being gay? This sort of atrocity will happen to me? Insanity!!!
And if he's using the gay panic defense does that mean that when a drunken slob and a sh*t excuse for a hetero man plays grab ass with me at the bar I can use the "Straight Panic Defense". I can only imagine the eye rolls and snickers I'd get from the cops if I tell them "Well officer I cut It off because he stuck his hand up my shirt and I was so freaked out that I just had to do something to stop the gargantuan presence of straightness that surrounded me at the time."
The whole situation is a heinous display of the lack of love, empathy, and straight up common sense people have regarding homosexuals and just people in general. UGH.
Somehow I feel as though the killer stands a better chance of receiving a lighter sentence by using a gay panic defense in Puerto Rico than if he was using it here in the states. I would imagine that the majority of Puerto Rico is Roman Catholic and extremely unsympathetic to homosexuals.
I could be wrong though.

"people who lead this type of lifestyle"
I took that to be referrencing prostitution, not being gay in general.
1. Okay, even if he was surprised and acting in 'self defense', I don't believe that justifies mutilating the body like that.
2. He claims he thought Mercado was a woman. I dunno, even with a wig, makeup, and appropriate clothing, judging by the pictures of him, I'd say that he would still look male. At least enough to rouse suspicion that he wasn't female. Matos must've been pretty drunk.
3. "Other allegations of the killer is that ... in his youth he was molested and that is why he hates homosexuals."
Okay, that's just an unfortunate phrasing error, but they really should fix that to make it clear just who he was molested by, because the way that sentence puts it, it seems to be implying that only gay men molest children.

The title alone made me cry a little.
I'll admit I've been a little emotional all week, but I can't believe people sometimes (or most of the time.)

“When my son told me he was gay, I told him, ‘Now, I love you more.’ I want to tell the world that hatred is not born with human beings, it is a seed that is planted by adults and is fostered creating a climate of intolerance and violence. We must change our ways and understand that anyone …could have been my son. And I want everybody to know that Jorge Steven was a very much loved son.”

I can barely stomach the idea of ANYONE being murdered, decapitated, and/or burned. When you add that the person was only 19, it makes me feel worse... and when you add that they were killed because of their sexual orientation... it makes it sickening. I can not believe that an act like this would be considered self defense. Horrible.
We'll see what happens when this nutjob is tried.
