I agree with you. I was actually kind of creeped out and disappointed at the same time. But it's Johnny Depp, I think he likes to keep us on our toes, and surprise us. When I first heard that he was going to be in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... this is not what I envisioned.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory: Raold Daul actually wrote it with a bit of fright. It's kind of an evil book for children. Basically, the message is "Be good, or something bad will happen to you". If you recall, in the Gene Wilder version, when they are on the boat, that is a scary moment in the film, especially for Children.
Daul was not your typical Children's author. Let's not forget the Witches.
I can't wait to see this version. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are great, just as musch as Willy Wonka. I think they are a perfect Trio.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.
