Posted: 3/16/06 at 4:48pmAmazing. Is there anything that would get you to finally stop cheering for the team?
re: 32 members of congress call for impeachment#26
Posted: 3/16/06 at 4:53pmi'm not particularly cheering here, jerby, just pointing out the reality off the situation. do you really think impeachment is a winning issue to run on? seriously?

I think the man and his admin should be put in jail, yes. I think SOMEBODY Dems, Repubs, Inds, George Clooney, SOMEBODY needs to restore this country.
Things are way past Dem vs Rep for me at the moment. It's Americans who care about their country vs Bushies who want only for corporations and the wealthy for me.
re: 32 members of congress call for impeachment#28
Posted: 3/16/06 at 4:59pmi would disagree that the country is that far gone. i would also caution you against portraying those who believe differently than you do as not caring about their country. it's almost like questioning their patriotism and we know well that such things are not allowed in political discourse, right?

Oh, I realize what I am doing. I can not comprehend how anyone who knows the truths about this admin can stand by them with good conscience. Katrina. Iraq. Plame. Wire tapping. I'm just disgusted. And, I'm amazed.
I can't FATHOM any intelligent reason to stand by this President's policies and behaviors. I honestly believe at this second that the only people who support Bush are profiting or desiring a world that abides by their morality.

The United States is $9 trillion dollars in debt.
But Halliburton and the oil companies have record years.
That's why 42% of the American people say "Throw the bum out."
And 46% say "Andrew Jackson him!"

glad you used the word truths father than facts, jerby.
and pj, i am encouraging all of my friends who are democrats to call their reps and urge them to support both the censure bill and the impeachment bill.

You know. I think it's more fear than a sense of pending victory. If things stay the same, Dems WILL take over Congress. And then all bets are off. Investigations will finally happen. And people will finally be taken accountable.
And that you seem to represent a mindset that opposes any of this saddens me.
42% of Americans Call for Impeachment#33

42%...forty-two percent of Americans say "Impeach him."
More than the 33% who still approve.
This number can only go up or down. If it goes over 50...
You can say goodbye to the Republican hegemony that has ruined America's economy, America's reputation and America's liberty.
Goodbye and good riddance.

no. they wouldn't have last week, jerby, and they surely wouldn't today. i'm sorry you're sad, but there we are.
if wishes were horses, pj...but they're not and the american people won't hand the reins to the democrats in november. barring major changes (hah! it's march), i don't see ya picking up even a seat in the senate, and last week i was generously admitting that we might lose 2. in the house, we'll drop 5. maybe.

Tell that to 42% of the American people.
And how about this poll:
A majority of Americans, 56 percent, believe Bush is "out of touch," the poll found. When asked for a one-word description of Bush, the most frequent response was "incompetent," followed by "good," "idiot" and "liar." In February 2005, the most frequent reply was "honest."

Posted: 3/16/06 at 5:59pmJerby, I have to throw my hat into your circle - or whatever appropriate cliched saying works to say I agree with you 100% about being unable to fathom how people are still supporting Bush despite all the things he's done. I'd come up with a better metaphor, but it's testing week in the middle school I work at - actually, the first of two such weeks resulting in a total loss of 7 days of instruction for us, 9 if you count the necessary wind-down days after, umpteen if you count the days spent exclusively preparing for the test -- sorry, kind of a ramble there - but just another screwed up result of Bush's presidency....

I mean, when you decided to be a teacher, didn't you actually want to...teach? Instead, you are merely an administrator of tests.
When I worked in Education, I swear I was going to slit my wrists if one more teacher complained that our shows were during testing weeks. "Oh, we can't--that's during testing week!". Honey, you can't schedule ANYTHING and not hit a testing week in Texas!!

I spend as little time as is possible actually working on the test.
I actually had a pretty nice compliment from my assistant principal today. I was giving him the dates for the plays my kids write and put on, and he mentioned how impressed he was when he had come into my room a few MONTHS ago and I was teaching tone in texts by using drama. So there's a glimmer of hope in the educational world...
We just have to make sure that the politicians don't completely squash it.

Tom Harkin: Why I Fully Support Bush Censure
We have a President who likes to break things. He has broken the federal budget, running up $3 trillion in new debt. He has broken the Geneva Conventions, giving the green light to torture. He has repeatedly broken promises – and broken faith – with the American people. And now, worst of all, he has broken the law.
In brazen violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), he ordered the National Security Agency to conduct warrantless wiretaps of American citizens. And, despite getting caught red-handed, he refuses to stop.
Let's be clear: No American – and that must include the President – is above the law. And if we fail to hold Bush to account, then he will be confirmed in his conviction that he can pick and choose among the laws he wants to obey. This is profoundly dangerous to our democracy.
So it is time for Congress to stand up and say enough! That's why, this week, Senator Russ Feingold proposed a resolution to censure George W. Bush for breaking the FISA law. And that's why I fully support this resolution of censure.
Nothing is more important to me than the security of our country. Of course, we need to be listening to the terrorists' conversations. And sometimes there is not time to get a warrant. That's why the FISA law allows the President, when necessary, to wiretap first, and obtain a warrant afterward. But that's not acceptable to this above-the-law President. He rejects the idea that he should have to obtain a warrant before or after wiretapping.
We have an out-of-control President whose arrogant and, now, illegal behavior is running our country into the ditch. It's time to rein him in. And a fine place to start is by passing this resolution of censure. I hope that Senator Feingold's measure will be brought to the floor. And when it is, I will proudly vote yes.

I'm seriously amazed this is happening, because historically speaking, it shouldn't be. This is a Republican President with a Republican Congress in a conservative political era. It just goes to show how truly godawful Bush has been. And maybe 9/11 really did change things somehow.
Just one question, though...do you guys really want to say the words "President Dick Cheney"? Ever?

Two answers;
1. No more, no less than I ever wanted to say the words, "President Bush."
2. Cheney will be gone first.
