I'm not entirely sure of the intent of this thread, but papa's funny reply aside, what could come out of it?

Measure this

Five hundred, twenty-five thousand, six hundred minutes is how long it's going to take the Democrats to figure out that they lost.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

40 million...that's how many American have no health insurance.

Half the country has been wrong before.

Then we kicked their ass, and they realized slavery was wrong.

This doesn't compare and you know it, Rodney. There's no civil war going down here.

Anyway, Carville via papa's signature is right. The Democratic Party is not a very well put-together organization, and hasn't been for years. I stick with them because of philosophy.

"There's no civil war going down here."

That's what people said from 1840-1860

"Half the country has been wrong before.

If those people were alive today, they'd be Republicans.

Um... incorrect... dumb-ass. Abe Lincoln was a Republican.

Firstly, no need for name calling. Secondly, the ideals of the parties have changed since the 1800's. I'm talking about modern day Republicans and Democrats.

Need proof? Find me a Democrat with a Confederate flag.

Rodney, that is perhaps the most, um, interesting comment I've ever read. Respect Mattio's opinions. And don't swear. 40 million

If dumb-ass is the worst thing I ever call you, then that means I like you.

So no offense.

It's true the parties have changed. As far as the South goes, I know all you blue state America people are pissed at the South and think they are all ignorant hicks in bare feet with dead animals hanging on the wall, but isn't that a bit generalistic and biased?

I agree that not everyone in the South is like that. But I can tell you that I hate the ones who are and I bet if we "Blue State Americans" never said anything about slavery, they'd still be running cotton plantations with slaves down there.

Mattio, I must say, however, that if there's one thing I hate more than what you mentioned, it was those undecided voters.

Personally I don't believe the Democrats are really interested in human rights. For example, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, one of the most important pieces of legislation in the last 100 years. There were 90+ Democrats that voted against it and only 30 Republicans that voted against it. I think the Dems are very good at posturing but I don't believe they are as interested in helping people as they say they are.

Gothampc, you have to keep in mind that this is politics we're talking about. People get so wrapped up in things that they can't afford to speak out for what they believe in for fear of the majority. It happens in all aspects of life. 40 million

Again, the parties have changed. Even in the last 40 years. I guess we're all just a bunch of flip-floppers. I'm a democrat and I care very much about human rights and I believe that the majority of my party feels the same way.

Mattio, how do you feel about Clinton and the Defense of Marriage Act?

I feel he was wrong. Nobody's perfect. And I also refer back to Nina's statement:

"People get so wrapped up in things that they can't afford to speak out for what they believe in for fear of the majority."

That's what I feel the difference between the Dems & the Repubs is. George W. was willing to speak out against unpopular issues. The Dems just seem to try to please whoever they need something from at the moment.

That's because there's a large portion of the nation (roughly 57 million people) who forgot that we have a separation of church and state and they really don't care about the principles on which this country was founded.

And Dubya didn't speak out against an unpopular issue. He knew that the majority of the nation was on his side with gay marriage.
