From replacing Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl to singing "Broadway Baby" in the Encores Follies, her career has spanned more than 4 decades.
She is one of the funniest women ever to grace the stage, and according to PalJoey'sMother, "She was just as good as Barbra in Funny Girl, only she didn't become famous."

I second Addy's delight (why had I never heard of her before?) and her dismay - I thought we were havng a party!
That "Who Are You Now" was extraordinary.
In the "today" photo, she kinda looks like Imelda Marcos.
That's true, PalJoey!
Cheers!

Saw Mimi in Reprise's PIPPIN a couple of years ago - she was great fun as Berthe (and the crowd LOVED her!)
Can't find a funny Mimi Then pic but here's another Mimi Now that shows how effortlessly funny she is.
Wait. Where can I find the rest of those clips from FOLLIES? There seems to be like a menu with all of them.
I saw her in FUNNY GIRL. She was fabulous. I have loved her ever since.
Thank you for paying her tribute, PJ.
My God, she looks like a prettier, funnier, more kinder and talented Roseanne!
She was BETTER than Streisand in Funny Girl. I saw them both.
Holy crap!
I could never picture her as Fanny Brice until I saw those "younger" clips of her.
Now, I get it!
Well, JohnBoy, I guess you are just so much better than I am in so many ways!!!
(Just kidding, of course.
)
LOL. She was better. Much better. When I saw the show with Babs, I actually thought she had fallen asleep on stage, that's how little she exerted herself. She was completely lifeless in the role, until she opened her mouth to sing. Hines, was full of life, and actually was funny. There was simply nothing funny about Streisand. She was the antithesis of funny

"she opened her mouth to sing"
Which is why she had the career she did.

She's a hysterical performer with a wonderful voice.
Which is why she had the career she did.
Whatever. It makes for rather tedious theater.
We used to have a summer stock theatre around here called the Shady Grove Music Fair. They put on lots of revivals of old musicals with guest stars. They also had a few concerts booked and I remember going there and seeing Paul Lynde and Mimi Hines. It was hard to tell who was funnier but it was no contest as to who sang the best. Her "Send in the Clowns" left me in tears.
