What's the message here, that children are nothing but pawns to be used by the Catholic Church?

Failing to receive exemption from the state of Mass. due to their religious affiliation, Catholic Charities, which specilaizes in placement of handicapped and specila needs children, ends it's service to these kids rather than be forced to allow same sex couples to adopt.
In a related story, Mass Governor, Mitt Romney, is reconsidering the request for exemption by Catholic Charities. Thus, giving them the clear message that they can manipulate and use children to meet their own needs.
Isn't this supposed to be the holiest of seasons in the Catholic religion? And here they make this announcement that, no matter how it turns out, denies children the opportunity to be placed in loving, supportive families.

This is a thorny spot we're coming to. I'm not certain the Church won't change its thinking on gay issues in time, but the anyone who knows Catholic Church history knows it moves slowly. As the article says, Catholic Charities has placed some children with adoptive gay parents in the past.
There's an idea I've been entertaining for some time. Is there a gay organization that offers special "birthright" services - which include adoption placement - for women seeking an alternative to abortion but have nowhere to turn?

The Catholic Church has officially outlived its usefulness. Sorry. This merely proves that any intent that they have at charity is trumped by adherence to antiquated doctrine. What's worse, there's an increasingly shrill segment that seems to be in competition with the evangelicals to see who can feel the most persecuted. William Donohoe, you screwed up perpetual hemmorhoid, I'm looking in your direction.
And I know there are many, many moderate or progressive Catholics out there, but I've got news for you -- you don't seem to matter one iota within your church. Your leaders want to deny you communion, shout you down (while molesting your children, I might add). This puppy's been causing problems for more than a thousand years and doesn't seem to be getting any better. Time to put him down, I'm afraid.
Even the great hero wasn't so great.

In case I wasn't clear, I wasn't talking about Catholics. I was talking about the church's leadership.
It's a leadership that's becoming more and more hostile toward gays, almost to a Fred Phelps-ian level. Particularly in some of the more conservative sects. Take a look at some of the stuff Donohue has said.

Posted: 3/12/06 at 9:52amI agree with Calvin. The Catholic church has outlived its usefulness. I was raised Catholic and hated it. It's a very negative religion that is so infuriating to me. It's so hypocritical. They preach all about loving thy neighbor, loving sinners and being charitable but god forbid they let a child who is in need be given to a gay couple. Because obviously they will turn the kid into a little anti-christ or something. Uh huh. Yeah I can see that logic...

....and after abortion is outlawed....where, or were, are all of those unwanted children supposed to go?
