It happened when I saw Jersey Boys, back in the John Lloyd Young days. He was in only in a scene or two when they stopped the show and made an announcement that Dominic Nolfi was taking over. (If memory serves, that might have happened more than once with him?) It also happened when I saw Porgy and Bess. Norm Lewis was clearly ill and was losing his voice, so they replaced him at intermission.
the last one is killed by a train and an urn is brought out instead. I was hoping the urn was going to start singing Facade, too, with its lid flapping like a talking Parkay tub! And Bricusse is responsible for what I consider to be the worst song, lyrics-wise, to ever appear in a Broadway musical: "Paris Makes Me Horny." Paris is so sexy/riding in a taxi/gives me apoplexy
Not after she ate Cousin Pam's potlikker! BTW, did you know there's a Smash/Cosby Show connection? That girl who played Ellis' fake girlfriend was often seen as a bulge in Clair's belly that they tried to hide behind bags of groceries and potted plants and such.
This is the saddest a tv show has made me since Clair wouldn't let Rudy wear her summer dress to a friend's party in the fall. It really is not easy being green.
Shoot, and I was all excited for "Moonstruck -- the Moon-sical!" in the Winter Garden. Marisa Tomei's second-act ballad/tap dance number "Snap Out Of It" killed, so I hear. (of course, the dumb producers would just shoehorn in the Shoop Shoop Song for the curtain call to please the tourist masses when it hit Broadway, anyway)
Nice piece/photo essay (though with a couple of factual errors) from the Times this weekend about Cicely Tyson' prep for "Trip to Bountiful." Also interesting in that they claim everyone has her age wrong. She's 88??
Joan Collins as a rival producer and Jerry's new mistress. She and Anjelica Huston could have a big drink-throwing fight and fall into a pool in Nick Jonas' backyard (you know he'll be back), and then make up and sing "Bosom Buddies." And Natalie Cole as herself when they write that Nat King Cole musical spinoff.
And since, as kickstarter donors, we are de facto producers, we can demand they write it so Baby Becky Ann Baker and Baby Dylan Baker (whatever their characters' names are) could never meet, thus ridding us of Baby Karen.
The movie could be like a prequel. Smash Babies, if you will. Like we could see Ivy's first audition, where she breaks into a rendition of Kraftwerk's Trans Europe Express.
So, considering my mother plans on seeing this with me when she comes into the city at Christmas, how many glasses of wine do I need to get in her to minimize my discomfort of having to potentially explain a cum shot joke to her?
