I want to get one of my teachers a really fabulous gift, and I was hoping you guys could help me think of something creative that he would really appreciate. He's a fabulous teacher, and he's got about every book on acting known to man. He's really funny, he's about twelve at heart, and he loves Lorca. Any ideas on what the perfect gift for him could be? He's taught me so much, and I just want him to have something that is special.
If he likes Sondheim:
One time I got my theater teacher all of the sondheim DVD's (i.e Company, Sweeney Todd, and Sunday in the Park With George and Follies) and wrote on the card Sondheim for the Holidays.
Just some input.

I've known a lot of Teachers and the unanimous verdict- Gift cards!
If you really know him well-- really well-- you can get him theater tickets if you KNOW he wants to see the show.
I agree with Joe, unless you are super acquainted with teach, I recommend giftcards. Even a creative type loves a giftcard to a book/music/dvd superstore where they can pick out their own creative gift to nuture their soul. Nothing worse than getting something you don't want. My sister is a teacher and says "giftcards, giftcards, giftcards."

He NEVER sees Broadway shows cause he thinks it's too much of a hassle. He just wants to see good theatre. He doesn't care how big the production is. I know him very well, I just haven't a clue what to get him. He's very family oriented, and they love to throw great parties. I thought about a fun board game, but he's got most of the normal ones.
Then I thought about getting him a copy of a Shakespeare play in Italian. But I'm not sure what good is that gonna do him.
As for Sondheim, music, etc, he's not really into music very much cause he never has time to liten to it. Man, this is so hard.
I don't know. We once got my theatre teacher a cookie jar with "Ashes of Former Students" written on it. It's cute. We usually get my theatre teacher engraved jewelry or boxes of some sort. Of course she's a woman, but I think there's an idea in an engraving of some sort. For example, when we did "The Miracle Worker" we gave her a necklace; on one side of the pendant it said teacerh, and on the other it said friend. When we did our town we gave her a bracelet that said "treasure every, every minute". Perhaps do something similar on a more masculine item. Maybe engrave some lorca onto it?

Another thought is maybe a gift certificate. You could try to find out what kind of stores he likes to shop in.
What's his favorite show??
This is kinda dorky but once I made this Playbill thing for my friend (a 'Wicked' Playbill, mind you) and on the inside I put seperate pictures of me and her to represent our 'headshots' and one of Norbert as the starring roles and I put pictures of Idina and Kristen as our understudies. It actually turned out really cute. It sounds awful, but it really wasn't. Sorry, I'm such a creative nerd!

After 35 years of teaching and a medicine cabinet filled with after shave lotion I'll never use and books that I already have copies of, let me suggest that you write a letter to the teacher expressing why you appreciate him and send a photocopy to the principal.
NOTHING is more appreciated!
I gave my teacher a gift he'll NEVER forget. And about 6 months later, he gave me a gift on my report card.
But what Dolly says seems like a very unique and useful gift. I think a few of my teachers could have used that boost...especially with all of the red tape and crap they had to put up with.
