But first on my list is CABARET and STAGE DOOR and THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER.

There aren't enough hours in a day!

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Oh, you must rent Dog Day Afternoon!...as well as the others. I've got a bunch of classics that it's boarderline embarrassing that I've yet to see!

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

mabel - you just pushed DOG DAY AFTERNOON to the top of my list.

You know - I oughta make a schedule, rent these from Netflix, and watch a film every night before I go to bed.

Rosebud - 17?
Where the h*ll are they going with this?

Is Terminator's "I'll be back" going to be number one? Sheesh!

I hope you like DDA. It's classic old school Pacino...check out Scarecrow too (w/ Gene Hackman and Pacino).

One of these days I need to make a list of the classics I need to see, and actually make an effort to pick up a copy of an oldie when I rent movies.

Back to the show, doesn't Stokes seem a bit random there?!?

I think they already did "I'll be back" in the 20s or 30s somewhere, but yeah...it is pretty random!

All my local Blockbusters don't carry the classics anymore. Just today I tried to rent Cabaret, The Man Who Came To Dinner, Stage Door, The Broadway Melody (any of them), and Singin' In The Rain. They didn't have ANY of them. I asked if any other local stores had them, and he said "The only one that's even showing up in our system is "Singin' In The Rain."

Blockbuster is now just video games, kid's movies, and latest releases. No oldies. LEWSERS!

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, I believe, is number three. AFI announced the list months ago, I think it's even on their website already. That's probably what I remember - and this is the televised special they filmed from it way back when.

Yeah, I went to about a half a dozen Blockbusters in Manhattan this past fall looking for Psycho and The Birds for my Hitchcock class...Psycho and The Birds!?!?!? It wasn't like I was looking for a couple of totally off the wall, random movies. They really have terrible selections! One of these days I'll have to get Netflix.

Wow - and now I also have to watch SUNSET BLVD!

I *love* these AFI tributes and specials. Watched George Lucas yesterday and today top 100 movie quotes. AFI should have their own TV channel devoted exclusively to these specials. Each day feature one classic film, then afterwards reunite the cast and crew, discuss the making of the film and have everyone share their stories.

What a memorable collection of afficianados. Did we really need to hear the private thoughts of ... Robert Hayes? Jennifer Grey? That megastar, Chris Sarandon? (Famous only for giving a name to the common law wife of Tim Robbins?)

Who booked these people? ROBERT HAYES?! James Brolin's screentest for Bond? That's rich. Where's his little woman, you know, a real ... star?

Is there a series I don't know about coming on CBS this fall "CSI: Sherman Oaks" with Brolin, Hayes, Grey?)

"Frankly..."

I forget some of the others though. I wasn't really paying attention.

Grey had so much plastic surgery that she said in interviews that afterwards, she couldn't get cast even when the casting call asked for a "Jennifer Grey-type."

Jennifer Grey looked a lot better with her old nose. Now she just looks like one more in a sea of unremarkable faces.
