As always, Best, you are correct! Without Lost Horizon any list is a gargantuan, STEAMING piece of poo. Steaming, I say!

Corn? When did I have corn...

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Why is there no Comedy list besides romantic comedies?

All right I have no snappy retort for the corn comment.

I shall now make snowcapped mountains out of floorlamps and sheets, put on the Lost Horizon LP and dance around the living room in my underwear.

Of course this is all subjective, but the thing I like about these "lists" is that it brings attention to some films that might not be remembered by everyone. Or, as in the case of this particular list, remind me of films I have always heard about as being "classics", but have never actually seen. Thankfully, all those movies are readily available and have been moved to the top of my queue!

It gets people talking about films and watching more classics! So you don't think "such and such" should be #1? So what, go rent #2-10!

(But really, Jerry freaking Maguire?!!!)

PEACE.

I think the reason they did not include musicals is because they just released the Top 25 musicals last year or so--even if there was no TV special for it. However, it would have been nice to include it as one of the genre's here as Movie Musicals were the BLOCKBUSTERS from the '30's to the '60's like Sci-Fi became the blockbusters for the '70's to now (give or take). Anyway....

My only gripe about the 10 Top 10 (and it is major) is that Mary Poppins and Princess Bride were not included in Fantasy and Big was.

AFI does a list annually cfmiller.

I agree with Sueleen that they remind people of movies that are older and forgotten. But at this point, I would love them to do a list like:
The 100 (whatever genre) films that aren't in the top 100.

If only the AFI lists had movies that might not be remembered by everyone. They keep recycling the same old lists and re-arranging the movies on them.

How about some obscure independent films for a change?

And why not add short films to the mix? Any list of the greatest animated films that doesn't include a single Bugs Bunny film is simply idiotic.

And STAGECOACH is lower on the Western list than UNFORGIVEN? HA! This bizarre delusion that Clint Eastwood is an interesting director just floors me. Who is Eastwood paying off to get his films the recognition that they just don't deserve?

That's what I was trying to say Roscoe!

I think an independent list would be great. And maybe a foreign list.

My Musical List

1. The Wizard of Oz
2. The Sound of Music
3. Singin' in the Rain
4. West Side Story
5. Oklahoma!
6. The Music Man
7. The King and I
8. Oliver!
9. My Fair Lady
10. Moulin Rouge

Even as a child, I hated Mary Poppins. Much to my surprise, I enjoyed the stage production, however. Probably because she wasn't portrayed as such a hypocritical bitch.

The 100 Greatest Films Ignored By The AFI

Here's a start at a list. Not necessarily indies, just great films that the AFI's listmakers won't dare to include as long as they continue to venerate the likes of Eastwood and Spielberg--

1. THE RABBIT OF SEVILLE
2. FRANK FILM
3. ERASERHEAD
4. insert Stan Brakhage film here
5. SHERMAN'S MARCH
6. GREY GARDENS
7. SALESMAN
8. STOP MAKING SENSE
9. ONE WEEK
10. insert another Stan Brakhage film here

Well, I've seen 3 out of that 10...

The Rabbit of Seville
Eraserhead
Grey Gardens

I guess they were ignored by me too, at least so far.

I threw that one in b/c I am a horror fanatic and wanted to represent the genre.
I do love Argento, although now that I think of it Nosferatu is a much better choice.

Which NOSFERATU? I'm kind of partial to Murnau's, but Herzog's has some cool stuff in it.

K, my list of foreign films:

RULES OF THE GAME
8 1/2
SEVEN SAMURAI
FANNY AND ALEXANDER
HIGH AND LOW
LA DOLCE VITA
THE LAST LAUGH
M
THE 400 BLOWS
DIE NIBELUNGEN
ANDREI RUBLEV

Updated, because I thought of others after I clicked Post Message. That's 11. C'est la vie.

I like your Foreign list, Tazzy. Mine would be something like this (off the top of my warped head):

Beauty & the Beast (Cocteau)
Babette's Feast
Forbidden Games
Nights of Cabiria
Small Change
The Wild Child
Z
Orpheus (Cocteau)
Fanny & Alexander
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

EDIT: The Red Balloon's a short, and I forgot my favorite Fellini film: Cabiria!

Jerry Maguire is a sports movie? Shouldn't that be in Romantic Comedy or something?
