(I posted this on the student board but it seems there a fewer updated posts there so..)
I've read a good few threads on A.M.D.A (the most frequent, from 2008 ) and was wondering, can anybody comment on it's recent standard? I heard some good, and some not so good things about the college and was hoping someone could offer an opinion?
A quick search will tell you that no, it is not a good school. It is commonly referred to as SCAMDA.
The few people I know who actually went there dropped out after the first year because they hated it so much. They will accept anyone just to take your money.

Have you considered The American Academy of Dramatic Arts? They've got quite an impressive list of alumni, more recent ones including Paul Rudd, Adrien Brody, Anne Hathaway... It's a two year conservatory program that fully immerses you in the craft (I'm a 2005 grad). Small class sizes and VERY individual attention - the faculty work together to identify your specific strengths and weaknesses, and arm you with the tools that will help you to become a working actor. But you do have to be willing to really give your all - it's an intense program and there's a lot of work and exploration involved. I loved my time there - I learned so much and came away ready to work professionally. I also came away with a strong alumni network that has been instrumental in my career - on nearly every set or stage I've found an alum.
The Academy is an accredited school, and they do have financial aid packages. Best of luck!
