Do they usually audition you in a dance studio or on a stage (small theater) type thing...I'd think it'd be a studio but I was just checkin'....does anyone have any personal audition experience at this place they'd like to share...cuz I would greatly appreciate anything...thanx a million ttyl

i posted this in another thread, but i'm glad to help :)
the audition is done in a studio. you will NOT be facing into the mirror, and the only people in the room will be the adjudicator and the accompanist (and a small video camera).
the auditions are pretty standard - you wait around for a VERY VERY long time, go into the room, and do your audition. everyone will be trying to impress everybody else with their experience, training, etc...but don't get caught up in that.
THERE IS NO DANCE AUDITION
the nice thing is that you get to meet with the accompanist for about 5 minutes a hour or so before your audition. that's awesome because you can smooth over tempo changes, etc.
they have AMDA students helping out with auditions who will answer any questions you may have, and they're all really nice and easy to talk to.
don't freak out about AMDA auditions, they're not bad at all :)
good luck!!!

I'm not so sure about AMDA. I don't know one person who hasn't gotten in...and I mean I know people who are terrible that got in. I dunno...watch out there...I've heard from more than a few people that it's highly overrated.

yeah...i know a girl who can barely carry a tune who got in. and if you DO get in - make sure you visit the dorms before you make your final decision.
also, don't expect financial aid when you get in. they only give talent scholarships ranging from $1000-$10000 a year, and have NO NEED-BASED AID. so if you don't get any of their talent money, you're paying for the 20-odd grand yourself every year.
that being said, it doesn't take a whole lot to get a scholarship there.
AMDA has need-based aid. I agree about the dorms, but they have been getting better over the year that I have been here. And yeah, they accept people who aren't great, but there are also some amazing people who work they butts off and are amazing.

sorry, when i said no need-based aid, i meant no need-based scholarships, musicgal. they do offer loans.

Yeah, every single person I've talked to that's auditioned has gotten in.
Seriously, does anyone know of ANYONE who didn't get accepted? I'd like to know.
I had a friend not get accepted. His grades weren't good enough or something like that. Its a shame as he is very talented and they accepted much worse from that audition I know.

what??? they're not even supposed to look at grades. that's weird. i thought they only asked for your transcript to verify that you graduated from high school.
i have a friend who practically had negative GPA who got in.
