I love that there is no context placed into the trailer except the 70s was a cross-section of some of fabulous costumes and regrettable hair. I already fell insistent on double-billing this with Behind the Candelabra.
Bale hiding handsomeness again, Bradley with a perm, and Amy Adams never looking sexier.
Look up the Abscam scandal to get some idea of the context.
Up until Silver Linings Playbook, which I know was loved on this board, I actually liked all of David O. Russell's movies. This looks like a cross between The Fighter and maybe even Three Kings.
To me this looks like a mix of CASINO, BOOGIE NIGHTS & 54.
SILVER LININGS was my favorite movie last year (not the "best" one, but my favorite), and THE FIGHTER was the only boxing movie I've ever enjoyed, so I cannot wait for AMERICAN HUSTLER. It looks like it'll be a lot of fun to watch and the cast is just out of the world. It also might feature one of Amy Adams' best performances to date, she looks incredible in that preview.
Yeah, this really looks like quite the showpiece for Adams, who is, in my opinion, the best of the best working today. Cannot wait to see this. Looks fantastic.
Americanboy, I couldn't agree more, Adams is so incredible she makes everything looks so effortless. I thought her performance in THE MASTER was outstanding, and her work with David O'Russell in THE FIGHTER was igniting, can't wait to see them work together again. Meanwhile, O'Russell's description of her character sounds fantastic: ""Everyone is playing someone they haven't played before...Amy is playing a vixen who is really cunning and crafty and is smarter than her partner in many respects."
I feel like Amy is almost racing against the clock to get an Oscar but I have no idea who is supporting versus who is lead in the movie (she has only been nominated for supporting her whole career). For a while it sounded like Amy was lead, Bradley Cooper was supporting, Renner was supporting, and Bale was lead. Then there was some talk it may be too ensemble-y and Adams seemed like she would once again be a contender for the supporting category. This trailer kind of make it look like the trio of Cooper, Adams, and Bale as co-leads. And Amy is supposed to be British in this movie too.
Lawrence came in late into the project but you know, even if her supporting part is a glorified cameo you better show the actress that won an Oscar for your last movie (that made a ton of money thanks in some part to a lot to people who were fans of her).
Also note that Megan Ellison produced the movie (other works being Spring Breakers, The Master, Zero Dark Thirty, and an upcoming Spike Jonze movie with Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams again). The trend of her movies tends to be auteurs given a lot of freedom to do what they do. David O. Russell with a lot of creative freedom sounds like a lot of fun.
Feels so Scorcese-ish.
Really looking forward to this...
