On your way to Saugatuck, make a stop in Beautiful Little St. Joseph MI. It's small and very very quiet. You can go to the huge public beach and not encounter a soul!

This is going to sound hokey but take the boat tour conducted by the Chicago Architectural Society. Chicago has beautiful buildings and the best way to see them is by boat.
And there's a piano bar with two drag queens who are hysterical--even if you think you're over piano bars (or drag queens).

PJ - that boat tour is excellent. And, I also think they serve cocktails.
I know a great piano bar - but I have not seen any drag queens maybe a few gangsters.

I was in Chicago for the first time a couple of months ago. I took the architectural boat tour (very interesting, but take sunscreen ... and a camera), saw Lost Land (with John Malkovich), watched the Tonys at Sidetrax with a friend from BWW, and had a chance to glimpse the inside of the Lyric Opera House after a old fashioned luncheon at Marshall Fields. I really couldn't have had a better time! Great city. Good people. And I want to go back.
