Hello, I am auditioning for Hodel, in Fiddler on the Roof, for my college. My director needs a song before 1965. I am a mezzo-soprano belter. I want a song that really showcases my voice, without the need for an over-done theater song. Please help!!

There is a slight problem. Hodel is written for a soprano (Julia Migenes who originated the role went on to a career in opera.) Whatever chest voice she uses is during Matchmaker, but it isn't a belt.
Look at Baubles Bangles and Beads from Kismet as a ballad, but don't be afraid to speed it up just a little.
Then take a peek at Beautiful Candy from Carnival for an uptempo.
In both cases however, the singer is a soprano and both actresses that originated them haves at least a few toes in opera.

You should use make believe from show boat. Or you could also use steps of the palace from into the woods.
