New Line only put "Come So Far" up for consideration.
-Adam Shankman.

Posted: 12/12/07 at 2:00pmCorrect me if I'm wrong , but most of the songs from Hairspray were not eligible because they originated on Broadway and therefor cannot be considered "Original".

I'd love to see "Falling Slowly" win. Hell, I'd be happy just to see it performed on the broadcast.
Or, you know, "PoP! Goes My Heart"...

New Line only put "Come So Far" up for consideration.
Why didn't they put up the other two original songs?

South Fl Marc - I think they were talking about the omission of Ladies' Choice and New Girl in Town. I was really hoping to see a live performance of Ladies' Choice at the Oscars. I just hope we don't get stuck with a lot of emo this time.
Zzzzzzz....

59 songs is not a shortlist to me. Ten maybe, but the real shortlist will be the five nominated ditties.
Fifty-nine sounds like an eligblity list or a kitchen sink list.

"Ladies Choice" and "New Girl in Town" were fun, but they were groundbreaking. They're fun pop songs.
At least "Come So Far" has a message. I can't wait to see it performed live, either.

I would love it if Music & Lyrics got a nomination!
would love to see both songs from Once get nominated.
I imagine Enchanted, Hairspray, and Once are locks. Into the Wild would seem to be a strong contender, too.

I didn't realize there were "submissions" in the song category at all. Any song that meets the Academy's eligibility requirements is... eligible.
I'm not aware of a change in rules this year.
I would guess the other songs were deemed ineligible for one reason or another.

I believe that list is merely the list of eligible songs. This way the songwriters know who to vote for when nomination ballots arrive.
And I think '...Pimp' deserved its Oscar. It was an incredible moment in Hustle & Flow.
