Patronus, I mean no disrespect, but I cannot honestly think of a scenario where a person can grow to adulthood in the south and not know that black people (and others) find it offensive. They may disagree as to what it represents, but they can't be oblivious to what it represents to a large number of people.

I know members of extended family who wear the flag on their shirt with pride who I sincerely believe they don't know the full implication of the image. Part of it was their upbringing and part of it laziness and a sort of general disconnect from media that "simpler folk" choose to live by. It's just what they were brought up with. It's just a case of good old blissful ignorance I think. Some of the would likely still wear the shirt if they knew, but that's a different topic.

I think the mentality will become more and more diluded as time goes on, but I do believe it exists.

I can give kids a pass up to a certain age. But at some point if you claim to no know what the confederate flag represents it's willful ignorance.
