What's to get? YES, under the law people are required to buy health insurance. But that link you posted, claiming to be a list of people Obama had given waivers to exempt them from having health insurance was not in fact a list of people who were given waivers to exempt them from having to get health insurance.

I feel like I'm arguing with the dirty homeless man who keeps insisting invisible snakes are eating the school children. I have to turn tot he crowd assembled and ask "Am I the crazy one?"

Since we're talking about options, here is one of my favorites I've heard many times: You DO have the option to be legally married. You just CHOOSE not to marry a woman.

To that I say: You also have an option regarding health care. You can choose health care or you can choose to pay the fine. It is still your choice completely.

And yes, you can choose to have a car or not, just like you can choose to have a life or not. The states should mandate that all those who choose to have health will be required to carry health insurance because health and cars are the same thing.

God, I can't wait until I can move out of this country into one that cares about the health of its citizens. Keep your money, Republicans, and die early so the rest of us can turn this into a rational place to live.

This is pretty much at the core of the disagreement. The same folks who don't like the mandatory insurance concept would also be willing to deny someone medical attention because they couldn't pay for it.

Hell, the insurance companies deny all of my father's claims three times before they even consider putting anything through. And he has three forms of coverage: private health care insurance (which he pays), Medicaid (shhh...the Tea Party still doesn't know about this), and military (shhh...the Tea Party still doesn't know about this). I wonder how many of those who consider the health care law unconstitutional would refuse Medicaid if they cannot afford private health insurance. My guess is they would wipe their asses with their own principles if it means they could stop coughing up blood.

Borstalboy, I don't know where you and your friend live, but you must have never seen the US government in action.

Have you ever been to the DMV or the Post Office? The very simplest of tasks become huge problems that create long lines. Have you ever been to an unemployment office? They treat people like emotionless criminals. Don't get me started on how messed up Social Security is.

The reason your friend had trouble with insurance is because of all the government regulations. We need a Reagan to get in there and get the government out of it. Why can't a person buy insurance across state lines? What's the government afraid of?

And for those of you who love nations with national healthcare, you better take a closer look. The way it works in the UK is that the government allots so many dollars per quarter. If that money runs out before the end of the quarter, you're out of luck. You need a knee replacement? Not until the government allots next quarter's finances.

In those national healthcare nations, they have government sanctioned methods of treating illness. The government decides, not you, not your doctor. If you're of a certain age and need a pacemaker, the government decides whether you're too old to get it. If you're a woman and have a breast lump, it's the government that decides whether you have a mastectomy or not. There are no second opinions.

Just a few weeks ago, the Saudi king came to the US for surgery. Why? Because we have the best medical treatment in the world. However the Democrats are trying to kill that. They don't want highly skilled surgeons to be paid for their craft.

What the US needs is less government interference in healthcare not the likes of Obama, Pelosi, Reid and Hillary screwing it all up.

Obviously you've never had to deal with the IRS. They're another big government agency that screws everyone.

So, do you want the IRS, the unemployment office, the Post Office or the DMV anywhere near your healthcare? Not me!

Really Goth...a person with colon cancer can easily change their insurance policy? REALLY? What ****ing planet do you live on? Until the new law went into affect...pre-existing conditions were used to turn down people all the time. Christ, how ignorant are you?

I've been audited twice by the IRS...I won them both. I've never had any trouble with the Post Office or with unemployment...as a matter of fact I just reopened a claim and my check was direct deposited today.

DMV?...don 't have a car. But I do have a license and have never had a problem in getting a new one.

Yes, I'd take the government over a greedy, uncaring, insurance company any day.

"Insurance across state lines" is one of the great red herrings- it would change NOTHING except to make insurance companies even larger and less responsive. It's the republican party in a nutshell- there is NOTHING that cannot be solved by letting huge companies make MORE money.

Wow. So now Goth has actually USED socialized health care in these countries? Nah, I didn't think so. The only thing he knows about socialized health care is the GOP rhetoric and scare tactics. What the GOP doesn't want you to know: There are people in this very country who have used socialized health care abroad or have loved ones who have. And the system works. It saves lives with little-to-no out of pocket expenses. With top-notch doctors and surgeons (who *gasp* aren't Americans!).

But people like Goth don't believe it. Why? Because it isn't an "American" ideology. Because it isn't strictly for profit. And because they refuse to experience it for themselves before they pass judgment. The good old Republican way. Shoot first, ask questions....never.
