So, how was he on Idol if he had an AEA membership with Wicked? I thought Idol didn't allow unionized contestants...

I think it meant only musician unions.

I just heard they can't have a current record contract.

It was either that season or the season before that they had relaxed the restrictions on members of any of the actors' unions (AEA, SAG, AFTRA).

I'm pretty sure no current record contract is the only stipulation.
