OK now for some mom advice... You really shouldn't go (just does not sound safe.)BUT if you do go DO NOT GO ALONE! meet for lunch somewhere in the middle. WE just want you to be safe, and there are alot of creeps out there.
mom ( and why don't you call more often? tee hee. Always wanted to say that!)

Bring one of us preferably. We all promise to keep the details a secret. Cross our hearts, Hope to die (lying underneath Raul Esparza in a very cozy coffin.)

Sorry got busy with work - imagine that! :)

To answer some questions:

I am 34, he will be 46 on Saturday.
He has seen my picture, and I have seen his picture.
We have not talked on the phone.
I would never have gone to his city and stayed with him!
I would never have met him in a non-public place!

I like the suggestion of trying to get him to come to the city first and staying overnight or the weekend at a hotel. Then, we could meet for lunch, dinner, theatre, movie, etc. but still each have our own safe place to go at the end of the day (Les Mis').

Don't worry - I would never meet someone from online without meeting safely in a very public place.

I will try and get him to come visit here in the city - but stay at a hotel.

Thanks everyone! I feel better now.

P.S. I have met plenty of people in person that I met online and have never been hurt (except for a broken heart).

I think that's a smart decision JL. It really says a lot about what's been going on the last 10 years that people are all so well-informed and cautious, which is a very good thing. It only takes one awful decision y'know? But I will say that I know a number of people who have had glowing experiences with meeting people online. My aunt actually met her 2nd husband online and used the same service to hook up my grandma with her new fellow. It's good you have him coming to the city. This at least gives you a good Escape/Abort option if you should need it, just disappear in the crowd. Best of luck to you! and do be alert.
