He was working on a Keith Haring project.

Such a great prolific guy. I met him and Sr. Jeanine at a screening of "In Good Conscience: Sister Jeannine Gramick's Journey of Faith" about ten years ago. Good people.

He also did some cinematography on "This is Not a Photograph: The Mission of Burma Story" about my favorite rock band.

A great loss -- he and his brother David are responsible for some of the greatest American films: GREY GARDENS, SALESMAN and GIMME SHELTER, among others.

And a new print of Grey Gardens begins today at Film Forum for a one-week engagement. What sad timing.

Rest in peace to one of the people who expanded the possibilities of the documentary format.

RIP. He made some brilliant, groundbreaking documentaries.

I always got the sense that he liked the musical adaptation of Grey Gardens but was less happy with the Drew Barrymore Jessica Lange version.

When "Gimme Shelter" played in my hometown, it brought the Stones' electric live shows to a market they would never play. My best friend & I swore that someday, we'd go wherever we had to to see them in person.
