My high school director is stuck on what to do as a show for our school next year and trusts me to make good suggestions.
Since I can make these suggestions, obviously I would like to suggest a show in which I have a chance at a good part and that represents the school well. The cast will likely have around 60 kids 5th grade through 12th grade with no double casting. For the last all school musicals we have done Oliver, Seussical, etc. We are willing to take on something slightly more risky.
In the senior class next year we have a very good character actress (would be amazing Berthe in Pippin..) who can sing most ranges, a dark haired ballet dancer who is not the strongest singer but sings soprano, a strong soprano who is a weaker actress and dancer but makes big choices (not ingenue typically), and me, a dancer with a reasonably strong mix and soprano range and strong actor. I also love to choreograph and we are a school with strong dancers overall and typically have a group of featured dancers within the ensemble. We can usually fill whatever guy roles we must. The big thing is finding a show that will cast us four girls, many of whom can be divas. Any suggestions? I have Pippin and Children of Eden in mind but am worried about enough large girl roles and roles for the younger kids.
Thanks!
(Sorry for rambling)
Would love opinions (if you think this show could be a fit for us):
Titanic
The Secret Garden (only 3 bigger older roles though..)
Li'l Abner (I would be Daisy and the character actress could easily be Moonbeam McSwine)
