What are some good alto ballads? I have to pick a song I'm not familiar with, but I'm having trouble finding one. Any ideas? Thanks!
Days of Plenty is great, but the range you need for that song stretches way past just "alto".
Alto is a little vague. Are you a belter, or mixer?
I'm a bit of a mixer. I've never really had any formal vocal training up until now, so nothing that is too difficult.
Try Gorgeous from The Apple Tree, it's a pretty low song and very character-esque...if you will. Um......Stranger to the Rain from Children of Eden is a good one. And If you want to take a little tiny bit of a risk, I Know the Truth from Aida isn't bad.
Thats all I can really think of...but I'll suggest more laterrrr. Hope it helps!

But that song is a really best when belted.
Yeah, but Hold On would still work. It's such a pretty song, but if it's acted correctly, it doesn't exactly matter if it's belted or mixed.
Yeah. I did this scene in a MT scene study class. One thing's for sure. I sang it better while doing the scene than I ever did just working on the song. It's so emotional.
I love when that happens
Being in the moment rocks my world. hahah
"Stars and the Moon" from Songs for a New World. It's not very rangey, but it's seriously gorgeous.
"Losing My Mind" from Follies.
Put your heart into it, and it will be fantastic.

This smoky song has a major tessitura. Way low to bright high (but not 'dog notes'--the ones only dogs can hear) notes.
It is on one of Nancy Lamott's albums as well as being by far the best song on the cast recording.
This song, as well as Stars and the Moon, works best if you have some life experiences to help you dig to the deeper meanings. There is a world weariness to both.
I highly recommend That Was My Way from John and Jen or The Music Still Plays On from A New Brain. They're both really mature songs but gorgeous.
