Am I the only one who found the right wing coverage of Obama not using a bible the second time around to be a bit over the top?

Posted: 1/23/09 at 6:14pmJust wondering, because last I checked you didn't legally need to use a bible to take the oath of office. Yes, it has become a custom, but it's not law. If someone is being sworn in and they don't feel like using the bible for whatever reason. It's not like they aren't being sworn in. They are, they're just not using the bible.

I agree with the right-wing media. It was DISGUSTING that Obama took the second oath of office without a bible. In fact, now that he got the oath WRONG the first time and didn't use a bible the second time, I say John McCain really won the election.
Praise the good lord in heaven! Now we will have Sarah Palin in office and won't have to hear stupid things coming out of the mouth of our Vice-President!

Posted: 1/24/09 at 4:43amJoeKv99, I know it is going to be a long eight years. I remember watching the Daily Show last week and he was talking about how the past 8 years have been great for the show. In that the screw ups that the right have made have provided him with endless things to mock without even having to try. There was an interview with him that came out around the same time as the whole Obama bible thing and they asked him about it. He had said that he thought that it would be hard for him to find material now because he had a lot to work with for eight years. Now, he realizes that he still has just the same amount to work with but he is able to take it at a different angle. Instead of mocking the right wing media for being stupid and defending the stupid things Bush was doing, he can just mock the right wing media for being stupid.

Oh PLEEEEESE! After years of watching these nut cases go off on FAR less than this, it would only have been surprising if they hadn't made an issue of it. Am I the only one who's become deaf to their rantings?

I don't know why anyone bothers with network news anymore.
Watch CSPAN and figure it out for yourself.

I watched a lot of the campaign and inauguration events on CSPAN. I just can't stand the constant chatter that passes for commentary on some of these news stations.
I also HATE all the banners, logos and promos that fill the bottom third of the screen on these shows. I remember watching some MSNBC coverage recently (I think it was the Hudson plane crash) where whatever was happening naturally sat low on the screen. The bottom banners completely covered the action. So, the voice over commentary was discussing a video where the only thing visible on screen throughout the story was sky.

Weird, I haven't actually heard of this "controversy" until today-- and I come from a moderate-leaning-to-Republican family with some REALLY right-wing family members.
Does anyone know who the portrait behind Obama is in the picture that Jaystarr posted? He looks familiar, but the picture's not close up enough for me to tell.

Posted: 1/24/09 at 12:48pmIf FAUX News were a legit source of information, they would report that 3 former presidents have been officially inaugurated (meaning the during the big-show) without the Bible. Having a hand on a book of law is perfectly legal for the swearing. Them alls needa get overrrr it!

No source of media is legit anymore. Everything is extremely biased one way or the other. It's not just Fox, it's all of them.
With all of this 24 hour news coverage coming from every station, Thoreau would be ashamed!

Posted: 1/24/09 at 9:34pmGlad this thread was started because I don't watch Fox and wasn't aware of their latest lunacy. It gets to me that people like all four of my grandparents were wonderful - and were also religious, but not insane with it. They had their faith and respected other people's faiths too. The fanatics on Fox taint all of them and don't even realize they're making their own people look bad. Every time I hear people complaining - rightfully - about these ludicrous fanatics, I think of my good Catholic grandfather who bought presents for orphans during the holidays, paid the bills for family members who couldn't afford them, and walked his talk his whole life. The fanatics need to shut up already.

Mister Matt, your joking when you say that right?
and Papa, I can assure you that there will be another 4 years of Obama. That is if the Republican party can't shape up and fly right. However, given how they handled the last election it doesn't look to promising.

Fox news is no worse than all of the other news channels. The difference is that Fox leans more to the right, while the others lean more to the left. That's why no one is complaining about the other ones.
If you think the right winged fanaticals ranting over Obama not using the bible the second time around was bad, the left winged fanaticals ranting over Palin's comparison of a hockey mom to a pig was just as bad.
Left and Right wing radicals always complain, it comes with their handbooks and bumper stickers when they choose to have those views.
