I'm an unabashed fan, and watching even a PG version of the Viet Nam experience play out in prime time in light of our current situation (enough said) has new and disturbing resonance -- a dark irony worthy of closer scrutiny -- not intended with the show was created. But forget the politics of war; it's nice to have a good old dysfunctional family front n'center. I'm personally tired of all the shows with people in white latex gloves picking crime detritus off of cadavers. Give me DREAMS and JUDGEING AMY (back Tuesday)
I was going to PM you about this!

I really liked the show at first (season)
I'm afraid it's gonna get too political for me though.
If I were 15 years younger I'd be so into Britney Snow
fookin awesome! someone else likes the show! i'm a just a wee bit obsessed with it, but there are worse things one can be addicted to. season 1's finalle made me cry, so did season 2's, and now the season 3 premire makes me moisty! the show is constitent, well written, well edited, well acted, and has a kick-ass '60's soundtrack. rock on dude!

"makes me moisty" that's it! (no comments from the peanut gallery) It was all around the eyes.
The school protest was WAAAAAY too familiar.
I SOOOO felt for J.J. at the end. I just wanted to hold him and comfort his poor broken aching spirit.
Oh God that was awesome. My favorite show is back AGAIN!
LOL! yes JJ is very nice on the eyes!! i couldn't believe all his friends... kaplooy! so so sad. season 2 better be on dvd faaast- i had so much fun watching season 1 over again.
I liked it the first season. I wasn't too thrilled with last season. I'm going to give it a chance this year. I taped it last night, since I was at Alter Boyz. Hope to get a chance to watch it today.

Though the show occasionally lost its focus last season (and stylistically, tried to hard to be all things to all people, jump-cutting us to death, when holding a scene until it played out would work better) ... it seemed to be back in fine form last night. Sharply written, and so perfectly cast and consistently well acted. Also, this is an expensive show, so you gotta give NBC a little credit for sticking with it. I think it's sad that it was shut out of the Emmys two years in a row -- I think an 8 p.m. 'family drama' just isn't perceived as cool enough.

First of all, I think the 8/7c on Sunday time slot is DEADLY.
There are way too many Sunday "event" shows like Oscars, Superbowl, etc. that cause the networks not showing those events to put either a crappy movie (ABC showing Titanic while the Emmys were on) or repeats.
Speaking of repeats, etc. American Dreams was not on consistently enough last year. How many NEW episodes were on last year? 10? If a person sees the show and likes it, then tunes in at 8/7c the following week to not find the show there, how does the network expect to build/maintain a viewership?
I think the thing that ABC is doing with the last season of NYPD Blue is VERY smart: "20 new episodes, 20 weeks in a row, no repeats." I'm sure I'm not the only one who got annoyed by the last season of Friends.
Finally, back to American Dreams, every time the Vietnamese girl was talking to J.J. I kept yelling "She's V.C.! Kill Her!"
I know that is showing the asshole side of my personality, but if she does turn out to be V.C., I'll be albe to say "I told you so!"

I love American Dreams, such a great show. I am looking forward to seeing what this season has to offer.

I think I missed one or two or three episodes of last season.
How is it the Roxanne is in the same grade as Meg if she (Roxanne) dropped out to be a groupie of her boyfriend's band for a while last season?
The show is not as technically clever as it used to be. I remember one time they had 40-year-old fottage of Dick Clark and he was talking to Meg (rate a record?) Very cool.
Did you know that all the TV's on the show are plasma screens? They can't use Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) because then you'd get that horizontal scrolling line thing.
I dont watch it (I think they are just trying too hard now) but my roommate does... and though I wasnt paying complete attention, the best line of the line has to have been something along the lines of:
You cant pray someone dead, Will. I would be an only child if you could!
..paraphrasing of course, but it caught my attention because my roomie was laughing so hard.

that was a great line.

That poor little boy is so earnest and sensitive. Everyone loves him, but he sure gets lost in that household sometimes!!
That's what happens when you get cured of polio.
People stop paying attention.
I guarantee he's gonna start limping a bit this season.

I'm waiting for Patty to announce at the dinner table that she's becoming a protestant.
And I can't believe no one at this board is chatting about the gay character on the show, who was outed in the last episode of the season. The current ADVOCATE profiles him, Hank Stratton's the actor (the one deconstructing the McGreevey debacle, via innuendo ..." the truth probably lies between Cipro's account and McGreevey's..." UH-HUH. Somethin' lies somewhere.) He's the mom's chisled jaw boss, sort of a 60s Arrow shirt ad of a guy. Of course, I always thought the cute music-freak in the Elvis Costello sunglasses would turn out to be gay. (Anyone else?) He just turned out to be wrong for two leading ladies -- which in show biz is often another definition of gay. Stay tuned.
I forgot about that Auggie!

GOD DAMMIT!
What's with Milo Ventimiglia aka Jess from Gilmore Girls infiltrating my shows!?!?
I mean what's next? He's gonna be doing Sidney on Alias?
I HATE this focker!

I am writing an essay for an "American Dreams" scholarship. The question is "How does your American dream compare to your parents?"
Broadway Legend Joined: 12/31/69
I guess it depends how old you are and how old they are.
My parents dreamed that John Kennedy would never be president. My dream is that John Kerry will never be president. So I guess they're very similar.
But back on subject...
I still say this little Vietnamese chick that J.J. is hanging out with is Viet Cong.

I don't think so... I think she and JJ will get together.
What is the neighbor's profession? I missed the beginning. Thanks!
