Canada is remarkably civilized. I spend as much time as I possibly can there.

While the number of Americans moving to Canada is increasing, it is still far smaller than the number of Canadians moving here.

Spain, as everywhere, has its own problems...although a long siesta everyday would be nice.

I'm sure Spain has its own problems but I think it would be much better than living here! I'm not moving there in the very near futer but as my boy gets through grad school and I get a little money saved, were outta here!!

I would prefer to live in Barcelona but they speak Catalan (though they speak spanish too but they prefer their own dialect ) and my spanish wont go that far In Barcelona.

I think- there are several languages in Spain... of course Castillian Spanish, Catalan, Gallego (?) & Basque- which is the hardest of all the languages in the world. Were going to Seville & Madrid this December- Can't wait !!!

My partner and I plan to retire in Canada. We visit there at least once a year. My feeling is that Canada actually is what Americans think America is.

The sad thing is it's the educated Americans who are leaving.

I admit to checking my eligibility last fall. I had the points but never got around to looking up job leads.

At least Detroit is blue enough that locally the politics are more tolerable than nationally. The economy really sucks, though.

I'd think it would be sad, for anyone Liberal or Conservative, to know that people feel that they need to leave a country that supposedly touts Liberty and Justice for all, in order to find that Liberty and Justice.

Yeah, but if a person thinks they would have a better life somewhere else, and the means and ability to do so, why not?

And by ability, I mean that the country they'd prefer to live in would have them as well.

Is it easy to leave this country and move to Spain or Canada- immigration wise?

I know that Spain has problems with Immigration too...

Canada has an online test that scores you on different criterea. You have to get a certain number of points in order to be considered acceptable for immigration. Things like college degrees and your career choice are big on the old point-o-meter.

Basically, they have a big older population that is a drain on their economy. They are looking to limit immigration to people who will contribute to, rather than drain their resources, eh?
