In addition to the stage adaptation, there's apparently going to be
a television version
Just saw this on AICN.
So they going to make a 10 part series focusing on the before and after.
Doodle is not going to be happy.
I can't even figure out what this means after reading it.
It doesn't sound like a ten-part adaptation of the Blatty novel or even the basic story of Regan and Chris McNeil.
It's "an exorcism," (like any old one they dig up?) starting from the earliest signs, going through the rite and the aftermath ... "and especially the after-effects of how a family copes with it" ... with Father Damien Karras in the mix?
In other words ...
"Hey, girly, you've just been exorcised! Watcha gonna do next?"
"I'm goin' to Disneyworld!"
No "America's Next Top Exorcist"?
"American Idol Worship"?
"America's Got Demons"?

Days of Our Lives already did a 30 or so part version in the 90s.

Oh, this old chestnut!
They have been talking about a tv adaptation for 20 years! I'll believe it when I see it, but it does sound annoying.
This story is now a classic of horror and really shouldnt be effed with, imo. It's like "Dracula", which is a perfect novel, and very specific, so any bastardization of the story will fall flat. I'll still watch it, like I did "Dominion" and the other prequel. The only films that truly work are the original and E3, the Legion" which is also based on a Blatty novel and directed by him.
Frankly, if Blatty isnt involved, I'm not excited in the least.
And regarding "The Exorcist Handbook"? Anything described by the producers "it's going to be intense and scary!" usually means it wont be either.

I would actually like to see a director's cut of Exorcist III/Legion. The studio basically forced Blatty to insert the exorcism scenes into that movie to fully tie it in to the original. I'm curious if there was enough footage shot to cover removing those scenes and how the film would hold up without them (having read the book I feel it would be for the better).
Exorcist III, while not as good as the original, is still one of my all-time favorite horror movies.
One of the very best of the genre.
