Hi there! I'm looking for an angry/bitter soprano song. My voice teacher suggested "Cry Me a River" but I'm not really interested in that piece. I would like musical theatre or operetta or even opera! I'm not really a belter so...any help would be appreciated!

Somebody asked a question about this a few months ago, maybe you could find that thread, but I remember somebody suggested "Never" from On the Twentieth Century.

Thanks, yeah I saw that post but I just thought I'd re-ask because those songs didnt seem to work with my teacher's ideas. I guess "Never" is more "theatrical" anger as opposed to deep/bitter anger...I don't know, but I just thought I'd ask :) Thanks!!
How about The Joy You Feel, sung by Franca in The Light In The Piazza?

Show Me from My Fair Lady is also good, as is Just You Wait. I guess Show Me comes more from a place of frustration than anger, but there is anger involved. It's also a great uptempo song- rare for sopranos who don't excel at belting.

"Just" anger gets really dull really fast. That's why "That Dirty Old Man" from Forum is so good. Dominia is furious, but the song is innately funny.
"I Hate Men" from Kiss Me, Kate is fun, too. However this will probably be on the 'overdone' list.
Or:
Learn "Falling in Love With Love", and then take it really dark in rehearsal and with very focused anger and hurt. Think of doing the song once through and standing stock still in a pin-spot looking at an exit sign on the back wall. Don't do anything to distract from the lyric--no gestures, no posturing, no movement except your mouth and the fire in your eyes. Just get those words out and let them do their work.
It will be a good acting exercise to see how deep and dark you can go using only your voice. Don't be afraid to make the listener just a little afraid for two minutes. Don't worry about being disliked.
The way the song is written, the person you are most angry at is yourself. Stay in your chest voice as much as you can. It will be easier to hear the lyrics.
"Caring to much is such a juvenile fancy.
Learning to trust is just for children in school."
THAT's anger.

"Rosa's Confession" from The Mystery of Edwin Drood is a healthy mix of anger and bat****.
