There is a wonderful documentary of the late sublime jazz singer Anita O'Day playing at Cinema Village in NYC.
Lovers of jazz and the era from the 1940s-60s should check this out to hear some great music and learn about this gutsy broad.
The negative moments?:
1. a snotty, arrogant Bryant Gumbel interviewing her on the "Today" show in the 1970s
2. John Cameron Mitchell. What is this sleaze doing here?
3. James Gavin and Will Friedwald. Two arrogant queens who somehow make a living writing about jazz and other music. Their pompous comments in the film mar an otherwise enjoyable film. As my grandmother would say "no one sh*ts perfume." I think James and Will need to heed that.

The negative moments?:
Jeezits, flagg--you can spoil ANYTHING just by being a pill.
It's 2008. There are medications to make you less unpleasant. TAKE THEM.

Who the hell are you?
Gee, I thought people were entitled to their opinions on this board and in this country. I liked the documentary very much except for the pretentious comments of Gavin, Friedwald, and Mitchell.
Sue me for my opinions.
Kiss my ass.

Why be sorry?
This is a very entertaining, informative documentary of a singer about whom you may not know much.
I merely pointed out what seemed to be some jarring moments of an otherwise fine film and "paljoey" had a hissy fit.
I do not know if this is playing outside NYC; check it out.
Peace.
