London, Ont. — Inflammatory right-wing pundit Ann Coulter took aim at a University of Ottawa administrator Monday night, saying an e-mail from the school warning her to use “restraint, respect and consideration” when addressing Ontario students during a speaking tour this week made her a victim of a “hate crime.”

Speaking to students and academics at the University of Western Ontario Monday, Coulter said the e-mail sent to her Friday by Francois Houle, vice-president academic and provost of the University of Ottawa, targeted her as a member of an identifiable group and as such, she will be filing a complaint with the Human Rights Commission alleging hate speech.

“I’m sure the Human Rights Commission will get to the bottom of it,” Coulter said to loud cheers from the 800-strong audience. “I think I’m the victim of a hate crime here. Either what (Mr. Houle) did was a hate crime, or the whole commission is BS.”

There are a number of people who are sticking up for her and calling Ottawa University out for not allowing her to speak. They are taking her as being sarcastic and showing up the lunacy of "hate crime"

That does not make sense. Ann revels in this. It's her shtick. She is a hypocrite and has been found to be one many times. She uses derogatory words to describe people she does not like and says things like "ride a camel instead of an airplane" to a Canadian muslim and yet when she is questionned, she flips. I think she should be able to speak. She can then be hissed at. Which is what she wants any way. Shock value. Does she really think she will change minds?

I'm sorry they canceled her speech. She's often advocated violence to "Physically intimidate" liberals- and while I find violence abhorrent, I'd be curious to see how she'd react if she was confronted with an angry liberal mob. Considering she can't handle a pie in the face....

If it doesn't get her press and cause controversy, then she simply wouldn't care. She knows what a hate crime is, but the actual definition doesn't suit her needs.

Ann who - all I know that this week we have had an infestation of some breed of American gnat. I think I heard some of it's annoying buzz but I understand if you don't swat at it, it will find its way back to it's fairly balanced dung pile and nestle in for a while.
