Must-Own Physical Cast Recording May 16 2026, 10:05:43 AM
Two physical CDs I still have in my possession cause f*ck our tech overlords are essential to me:
1998 Papermill Playhouse recording of Follies
1995 National Theatre recording of A Little Night Music with Judi Dench
I imagine both are hard to come by at this point, but they are my precious(es).

Yes, we may well be- but my point is Broadway has had these periods and rebounded. It is far too early to fret about Broadway's viability."
This. I can't help but wonder if the 2024/2025 tsunami of new musicals was broken up a bit with, say

Gillian Anderson & Billy Crudup to star in West End VIRGINIA WOOLF, dir. Marianne Elliott Mar 18 2026, 02:09:16 PM
I've never been so happy for a December business trip in all my life (though not 100% true, cause I saw The Bridge's Into the Woods last December). Got my ticket!

Loving You: The Untold Sondheim podcast Mar 5 2026, 05:06:24 PM
As the host of Sondheim Unplugged, I have a professional obligation to listen to this critically and with an eye toward understanding the greatest of musical theater masters.
As a rabid fan, I'm going to house this like I used to house cocaine. Cannot f-ing wait.

This is an odd sentence.
I've worked with Cole as an actor and they are really quite something. The first thing we did together, I only knew them from Jeffrey and Cole Casserole, so I didn't quite know what to expect. During that rehearsal process, they became my rock and they exuded professionalism, dili

Rocky Horror Show Revival Cast Jan 29 2026, 05:24:06 PM
On paper, this cast is far quirkier than the revival from 2000 (of which I was a big fan). Other than Joan Jett (who...ooof...) and Dick Cavett, the rest of the 2000 cast was capital MT Musical Theater. This seems like a gloriously chaotic group of oddballs and, personally, I think a grounding presence as Frank is not a bad thing. Frank should hold the center while the rest of the cast can spiral out from him.

Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande in SITPWG? Jan 14 2026, 04:44:38 PM
Gotcha...thanks for clarifying. I also don't think Glinda is a supporting role but a co-lead...particularly with how Wicked: For Good shifted the focus for that role.

In what world is Dot a supporting role?? Have I hit my head and done real damage?

Happy to elaborate! First, the visual of Jack's appearance at the top of the song set the tone. He looked like he'd been in a fight - cuts and bruises, torn clothing and dishev

Into the Woods - The Bridge, London Dec 11 2025, 09:51:18 AM
The transformation of the Witch in Act One and the staging of the end of Last Midnight were the two moments that let me down in an otherwise stunning, deeply moving production of Into the Woods. It's a shame, too, because Kate Fleetwood's Witch is perhaps the most effective I've seen. She doesn't have the stellar vocals of some of our more resplendent Witches, but she is the perfect combination of funny and actually scary. She never asks for a moment of empathy from the audien

NYT: It’s a Homophobic Slur. What’s It Doing in So Much Theater? Dec 1 2025, 05:27:25 PM
Leaving aside the fact that it is my favorite word of 2025, I find it interesting that the article didn't touch on the political moment we are in and how that may contextualize the springing up of this F word. This feels like a very dangerous moment for queer folk everywhere. All advancements over the last decade feel like they can be stripped from us, returning us to outlaw status. That feels like an important backdrop to the proliferation of titles with the word f*ggot in them. &nb

Ariana DeBose to lead THE BAKER'S WIFE at Classic Stage Company Nov 12 2025, 11:37:26 AM
Auggie - I think there is one portion of the song that manages to make it still function within the linear narrative - it's the intro ('What does he think I am...'). Her fury at him turns into fury at herself which then leads her to work through what she's feeling and make the decision she ends up making. Without the intro, the song is absolutely a generic (if gorgeous) cabaret spotlight showing off a singer's range. With the intro, it's essential for this character

Agreed on all counts. When I did this show in college (1994 so a million years ago), Endless Delights was already gone from the licensed version we had. Our director just put it back in because i

Broadway Grosses delayed until Thursday? Sep 26 2025, 03:57:04 PM
Also...the performers on Broadway are (generally) at the very top of their field...like...in the world. I work in Big Law and deal with people who are acknowledged as some of the best in the world. And they make killer money. Is this an apples to apples comparison? Of course not. But it's just so f*cking wild to me that the first people being told (by some) that they have to take a pay cut and/or make concessions are some of the best stage performers in the world. And I'm not talking

Oy vey is right. If an actor works a full year at the current equity minimum, that would be considered a middle class salary in NYC. And that is before any payouts to agents, managers, union dues, etc. Are we saying on a Broadway message board that Broadway performers shouldn't be at least able to achieve middle-class status?

Into the Woods - The Bridge, London Sep 19 2025, 01:55:26 PM
I guess I'm a weirdo with a penchant for strong-jawed women, but the very idea of Kate Fleetwood as the Witch reduces me to a jabbering fool. Jamie Parker is just a cherry on the sundae.

Into the Woods - The Bridge, London Sep 17 2025, 04:33:24 AM
Last week my Brit theater friend mentioned that the rumored cast was Kate Fleetwood, Arthur Darville and Katie Brayben and I jumped immediately to grab a ticket for my next London work trip based on Kate Fleetwood alone. Jamie Parker made it even more of a must see for me. Lady Macbeth as the Witch? Yes, please.
