Annie Get Your Gun in School!

Okay, so rehearsal has officially started for our High School production of Annie Get Your Gun. I'm just praying that we don't miss many because of snow days like we did last year.

Now that we are getting down to the acting part (I was simply reading through and memorizing before rehearsals began), I've come to realize that Frank Butler is a little more challenging than I thought. For me that is. I was more worried about the singing, but Frank is a complete womanizer, and I am completely NOT. I'm so passive that its disgusting, and I'm such an unaffectiate person. I HATE HUGS!

But I suppose that's what is enjoyable about acting. Bringing different parts of yourself out to the open and expressing yourself differently. It's going to be interesting to build my confidence and come across as a studly cowboy man. Haha. But I'm a hard worker, so I'll get it down pat. Afterall, this is only the first rehearsal.

Ahhh, there's no business like show business...

Hey...I too have landed the role of Frank Butler in our School Production! While I am not a womanizer as you put it, I have played roles in which you have to act like that! Just keep reading into the part as far as you can, and don't let anything really hold back....sooner or later it is just gonna kinda come to you, without you knowing it! That is the whole point of developing a character! Good-luck! Have fun!!

Watch a lot of westerns. re: re: Annie Get Your Gun in School! lol And Sports...like Football.

And remember, it's your take on the role; not necessarily how he's been portayed in the past. Discuss it with your director. Perhaps you'll bring a new image to Frank that is not as much of a womanizer, but perhaps emphasize that he's a muscle-head who doesn't know how to be around women. re: re: Annie Get Your Gun in School!
Good luck with the part.

Perhaps it's not so much that he is a womanizer, but that he needs to have all the attention focused on himself.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

We just finished our production of Annie Get Your Gun on Feb. 28th. It went really good and it was such a fun musical to do! Especially the first shooting match. That part got the most laughs! Break a leg and enjoy your time as Frank! re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Annie Get Your Gun in School!

BTW Joizey, does your production have the song 'Stop, Stop, Stop' in it? In ours we used it and Dolly was the one who sang it to Charlie Davenport, yet it wasn't on the cd? Just wondering if your production stuck that song in.

Nope, we don't have a song like that. We're doing the revival version of the show that Bernadette Peters was in recently. It took out a lot of the Native American parts to make it more politically correct or something.

Dolly sings this song Act 2, scene 3 On the deck of the cattle boat. It's the scene where Dolly, Charlie, and Chief Sitting Bull see Annie's gun... This song is sung only by Dolly to Charlie when she starts to like him. I looked up this song and I found out that it was called Stop, Stop, Stop (Come Over and Love Me Some More). I wasn't ever in Annie Get Your Gun, but was an old Irving Berlin novelty song. Here are the words...

[1st verse:]
Honey, there's something buzzin' 'round my heart
Something that must be satisfied
My dearie
See that Morris chair
Standing over there
There's some room to spare
Now for some love prepare
Make yourself comf'table before we start
Tie yourself right up to my side
Sing me that lovin' song that goes something like
Ummm, umm, umm, umm

[chorus:]
Cuddle and squeeze me honey
Lead me right to Cupid's door
Take me out upon that ocean called the "Lovable Sea"
Fry each kiss in honey, then present it to me
Cuddle and please me honey
Anchor at that kissing shore
My honey, stop, stop, stop, stop, don't dare to stop
Come over and love me some more

[2nd verse:]
Hon' did I hear you say you're going home?
Just 'cause the clock is striking nine
My dearie
That clock at its best
Is an hour fast
Eight o'clock just past
Stay, let the party last
Surely you wouldn't leave me all alone
Just for to satisfy the time
Sing me that lovin' song that goes something like
Ummm, umm, umm, umm

It's a really cute song between those two...
BTW check your private messages...I sent you a link to something.

Ahh, alas, our school show is over, and it was a great success!

Supposedly we got record numbers for our audience each night, and the house looked almost full on Friday and Saturday night. That's awesome since we have a very large auditorium.

I struggled with my voice for the tech week into the shows because I've only have about 9 months or so of formal vocal training, and the role of Frank Butler was the most serious singing role I've had yet. So basically I didn't talk much and I drank water until I floated, and sucked on Halls all day long. Our show is entered in the Rising Star Awards that the Papermill Playhouse runs each year, so now we can just wait to see how they judged us.

I'll miss walking out into the spotlight each night to start off the entire show with 'There's No Business Like Show Business' a cappella. Well, it's been fun, and I'm just reporting the success of our high school show. Yay.

PS: Got your PM!

Someone is doing ANNIE GET YOUR GUN?! In a high school!!!???

I am so offended! In this, the post-Columbine age, we must do what we can to keep guns out of high school! Someone start a letter writing campaign at once!! WHAT are we teaching our impressionable young people??!!!!
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali
