Another Gay Teen Commits Suicide — Page 2

The news of Jamey's suicide broke my heart when I first heard about it, and I'm sitting here crying now.

I don't have all the answers for sure. I do think "It Gets Better" serves a good purpose and has done a lot of good. It's just...sometimes, when you're a fourteen year old kid, and you figure you've got at least four more years, give or take, of having to endure this crap every single frackin' day of your life, being told "it'll get better when you're all grown up and out in the world" is simply not always good enough.

Bullies effing suck and need to be dealt with. And, I dare say, even helped themselves, since I think many are probably self-loathing individuals who are turning their hatred of self toward their victims.

This may seem a bit OT, I don't know, but I think it applies here. There was something written recently in one of the women's magazines I get, forget which one, that said (paraphrasing) that for every negative comment or experience a person gets, it takes five (I think it was) positive comments/experiences to make up for it. That article was referring to within a marriage specifically, but I think it applies to life in general. I know that for myself, I will let negative comments eat at me, and I'll play them over in my mind much more than I will anything positive anyone says to me. I guess it's like the emotional equivalent of "worrying" a sore tooth with your tongue.

But that's just poor little me, getting my feelings hurt here and there. Big freakin' deal compared to what kids like Jamey go through. That's an awful lot of negativity to be over-ridden. I cannot even begin to imagine that living hell.

Rest in peace, Jamey. Seems like you were a great kid. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and friends.
