I'm sorry for making another thread, but I've tried searching and haven't really come up with any answers to my question. I'm looking for audition songs. Not for a specific show or anything... I guess I'm trying to put together a portfolio of songs so that I don't have to scramble over to the library every time an audition comes up. I'm 15, and my range is from a low F# (below the staff) to a high G. I typically sing alto parts, though I've sung mezzo songs before. Songs I've sung in the past include Home, On My Own, In My Own Little Corner, Anything Goes and If Momma Was Married (which I couldn't stand at all).

If you have any suggestions for me, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm also a mezzo, and it's hard to find material. They trouble for me is finding things that show range. It's easy to find belty, easy to find headvoice, easy to find alto in seperate pieces, but I can't find much that uses more than one. If it's any help, right now I'm working on "I will be loved tonight" and some stuff from "Starting Here, Starting Now." Also, "A Place Called Home" is along the lines of what you've done in the past.

I'm the same type of voice as you. On my auditions i usually use Judy Garland songs like you made me love you, the boy next door and come on get happy. Boy next door is good becuase it starts off slow and then builds up to a crescendo. You made me love you is my favorite because of the notes. Come on get happy can get really tiring after awhile but if you can do it you wont regret picking that song.

Look into "Will He Like Me?" from She Loves Me. It's by the same guys who did Fiddler. The highest note in the song is a high E, and the lowest is an F below the staff. It's a great song, and so much fun to act.

"This is what I trained to do, and this is what I love about theater. What I love about being an actress is being able to really look into myself and understand another human being. And out my own self, to shape and form and fashion a real human being--and to present that in such a way that people see something of themselves or their own understanding in that human being." --Phylicia Rashad

Speaking of Fiddler, a gorgeous mezzo song is "Far From the Home I Love".
