There was a wonderful production last summer here in DC at MetroStage. A community theatre in the District is putting it on this summer, called The Foundry Players.

I would want to originate a role that has really kick-ass music and a really layered character.

Alice Cooper! Even better than his rendition of the song is his "head shot" in the booklet of the CD. It has headshots of all the principal singers; they're all serious, b&w professional shots, and then there's Cooper's...oh god it's beautiful.

it's too bad this relationship isn't established in the words of the show, but a smart director could do some really interesting and cute interactions wordlessly between the two. It would make for some cool subtext.

Take Me Out by Richard Greenberg. Pretty much anything Greenberg.

Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar. I think it's kind of ironic that I've actually taken some of the music down an octave even though I'm a girl playing this male role. When I was cast, I was expecting to have to sing most of it up the octave.

JCS and Evita also have considerably more solid bases that Cats and POTO. I found The Phantom of the Opera(the book) to be overly dramatic and trite. Cats is based on a whole bunch of poems, rather than a story, and is mostly dependant on crazy costumes and make-up anyway. Wheather you are religious or not, the story of Jesus Christ is an interesting one, and any show based on history IMO has more depth. Same goes for Evita.

It's really interesting to read this thread considering not only am I currently playing Pilate in JCS, but I am a girl playing Pilate! Pilate's Dream is anything but "sad." It's haunting, bewildered, confused and even frightened. The way we have it staged, he has just woken up, so it's his first attempt to sort out the images he has just seen in his dream. Remember the last time you had a scary dream; you lay there remembering everything, and just as you think you've got it all sorted out, so...

If We Only Have Love-Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. I know it's cheesy, but the sentimental side of me gets all choked up when I hear it.

What about Len Cariou? I imagine Len is pretty straight-forward, but Cariou? Care-eye-oo? Car-ee-oo? Care-you? Car-you? AHHHH!!!!

I'll be so happy to hear Gooch's songs sung by a decent voice. On the OBCR, the voice of the woman who played Gooch almost made me lose my faith in humanity.

How about The Last Five Years? Tiny cast (2 people) no dancing, and when I saw it this summer at Metrostage here in Washington DC, their set was very basic, almost nothing at all. As long as you know you've got some great voices to pick from, this might be a good choice for you.

The stage manager is in charge backstage. He or she keeps the prompt scripts in order during rehearsals. (When you purchasea published play, and it has things written in italics like "crosses stage left" those are notes that the stage manager frm the original production made.) Also, when the show opens, the director takes over for the director, and it is their duty to teach all the blocking and whatnot to new replacements. They generally keep things going backstage with sets and stuff, too. F...

One more vote for Ruthie Henshall. Patti just failed to thrill me, she sounded so...blah. I wasn't swept away by it.

This truly was a wonderful production, and I'm thrilled I got the chance to see it. I'm so sad to see it go, It is definetly worth much more than it got.

I'll tell you what we don't need... ANOTHER DISNEY MUSICAL ON BROADWAY. Thanks, I really needed to get that out.

Actually, I would NOT jump for joy if given the chance to be in a show with them. I'm not even the slightest bit interested in MEETING these people. I really hope all the bubble-gum pop singers stay far far away from Broadway.

THE TRADING SPACES GIRL!?!?! I didn't know she could actually DO anything. ljay, you just blew my freakin' MIND.

In my opinion, Patti is a much stronger actress than singer. I mean, the timbre of her voice is pleasing(not eargasmic, but pleasing) it's just that pesky diction problem. I would love to see her in this role, I think as an actress she's definetly got the fire for it, and I would be first in line when tickets went on sale, for sure!
