The stage manager is in charge backstage. He or she keeps the prompt scripts in order during rehearsals. (When you purchasea published play, and it has things written in italics like "crosses stage left" those are notes that the stage manager frm the original production made.) Also, when the show opens, the director takes over for the director, and it is their duty to teach all the blocking and whatnot to new replacements. They generally keep things going backstage with sets and stuff, too. F...
