The family and I are leaving for a weekend trip to Key West next Friday. Since we have such a short amount of time we're looking to just hit the highlights. Anyone have any recommendations? I've already heard the Hemigway house, snorkeling, etc.

And please tell me before I get my hopes up - are key lime martinis a thing? :)

I know you. I know you. I know you.

Expect swampily hot during the daylight hours.

I like the Hemingway House a lot. Doesn't require a huge time investment.

Dunno if u can still get this but I missed the Truman White House, it's been recommended to me but we didn't have time. Do the Trolley Tour ( there r a few the newer one was sl cheaper and we got a coupon from a box right where they did the pickup.) That will give u a good idee of what u want to explore more of,
OH yess DO do Fort Zachary esp the beach just past the fort- ENJOY!

The thing I enjoyed most about Key West was walking through the nicer residential neighborhoods just outside of the tourist center. Gorgeous homes surrounded by exotic flowering plants and trees...lizards on the walls...so clean and beautiful.

You can also take a short walk and have your picture taken at the southernmost point in the continental US. Just next door is the beautiful southernmost house and a great little beach called South Beach with a great restaurant bar right there in the sand.

I'm sure you'll find key lime martinis. They have key lime EVERYTHING down there!

Art has a double face, of expression and illusion.

Three time veteran!! You can have great food at all of the standard places on Duval street: hogs breath, sloppy joes. A favorite of my family is schooners. Total dive bar, but it's mostly locals with great buffalo shrimp, live music, great atmosphere and even better drinks.

Also, a must go is de pepe's Cuban places, at the end of Duval street. We've never had a bad meal there. The Cuban nachos aree to die for!!!

If you're looking for good Cuban coffee, check o it Cuban coffee queen. It's a little off the beaten path, but great coffee wi th coffee ice cubes and Cuban bread breakfast sandwiches!

If you're looking for a REAL fancy dinner, go out to the island. Super expensive, but the view, boat ride, and food are really worth it.

If you have any other questions let me know, it's one of my favorite places to be!

Totally agree about PePe's.
If u do want a good /fancy meal try Micheal's- They have an "early" menu served til 730 that is basically the same as the main menu just smaller portions and frankly they were v generous, I couldn't have eaten more!

I know quite a bit about Key West. If you're going to be there this Friday night, 8/3, there will be a free local event in the city parK-Bayview Park--starting at 5pm and running to 11pm. Local food and beverages will available for purchase. The organizers anticipate 800-1,000 people. There will be live music as well. The money will go to a scholarship for local student. The event is the opening event of a two-night Elks Club Teen Club 551 Reunion. For teens in the 50s & 60s in KW the Elks Club weekly teen dances was the big event in those pre-PC, mobile, iPad days.

Eat some Bollos and Conch (konk) Fritters while you're there too!
