Google or yelp:
Willows Bed and Breakfast or the Parker's Guest House.
It's not BB but cheap...check Twin Peaks Hotel.
I am sure there are more out there.
What kind of activities are you planning to do?

Posted: 3/17/09 at 8:26amSmall inns are fine. I'd like to stay in or as near to where the most "life" is (gay bars and establishments). Would that be the Castro? I don't even know.

Castro Inn that's in Castro Street- walkable to everything and near a public transportation when we went to San Fran last June- we took public transpo everywhere, even to the airport. I highly recommend this B&B!

The Willows Inn is a terrific B&B. Great location, nice rooms. Check them out:

Posted: 3/17/09 at 11:36amThe Castro is definitely ideal, not just because it's a great neighborhood, but also because--as Jaystarr said--you're right on the Market St. bus line which will facilitate visiting many of the tourist spots. You're also within walking distance to many other interesting neighborhoods, if you're a walker.

I stayed at this B&B within one downhill block right to the Castro! You cannot get any closer. Price was right, owner was nice and every morning he made a very nice fresh cut fruit plate for breakfast. Was like staying with your grandfather in his Victorian home...keep in mind that the Wharf etc is over a 20 minute ride on the street car. Other than that - it was great. If you plan only to frequent the Castro and the bars there - then this is the perfect stumbling distance away.
If you want a good priced hotel - not fancy. Stay at the Grant Hotel right on Bush Street on Nob Hill. This is within one half block walk to the Powell/Mason Cable Car. Even though the Whelan B&B is nicer - the location of the Grant Hotel is more of a preferance to me primarily for the public transportation and central location. Both run about $100 a night. Grant Hotel you get your own bathroom too.
